    Mounted a Wimberley P-50 plate on it and got some practice time with it Wednesday with good results. We were overcast last night so no moon shots..

    Did I mention its really sharp and fast? Its really sharp and fast. And the 1.25 teleconverter (1000 mm) works really well.

    I will be shooting the Porsche Club Driver Education day at HPR with it this weekend and will let you know what I come up with.

    I guess I have to ask, if anyone gets a chance to compare this lens with the 600mm f4 with a 1.4 TC-E and the 400mm f2.8 with a 2.0 TC-E. Then compare the 800mm with the included TC-E and the same 600mm with a 1.7 TC-E. I would love to see the results and hear how each combination reacted to real world shooting.

    If one looks at the MTF data, it suggests the new 800mm is definitively sharper. Here are the links to the 500 and 600, the 400 and 800 MTF charts are on the previous page of this thread.

    That is a wise move on the merchants part. What good does it do them by having this lens and others like it sitting in their inventory collecting dust.

    On a serious not, this was so very generously demoed by our own DenverShooter at the last NRF meeting in Colorado Springs. And, I have seen some of his images since…….outstanding….

    I just added it to my wish list on Amazon and will be telling my lovely wife about that over dinner. I note that the Amazon writeup says that since it has VR it can be hand held. My wife will be thrilled that I'm not asking for a new tripod (too) as a result.

    I'll let you guys know if I get one for Christmas.
