I have used the my DR-5 right-angle viewfinder on my D3X for a few years now with great success, especially for low angle shots. Reading the specifications on the DR-5 it says that it is compatible with the D800/810. However, I have found that the threaded ring on the D800/810 is clearly larger than the ring on the D3X. I called Nikon support to see if there is an adaptor required and they say it should mount without problem. Unless I am missing a piece of the puzzle, the DR-5 isn't made for the D800/810. Has anyone had success with this?

I went back to my D3X and see that the DK 12 is on it--guess I forgot installing it. It does fit both the D3X and the D800. Guess I'm going to need to buy an additional one if I plan on still using my D3X as I have transferred it to the D800. I'm keeping a DK17 on my d810 for the time being to see if I like it
I am using a DR-5 with my D800 and it works fine. Don't remember putting on an extra ring on the DR-5, but I can check if you are interested.
