Anyone using DR-5 right-angle (90degree) viewfinder with D800/810?

I have used the my DR-5 right-angle viewfinder on my D3X for a few years now with great success, especially for low angle shots. Reading the specifications on the DR-5 it says that it is compatible with the D800/810. However, I have found that the threaded ring on the D800/810 is clearly larger than the ring on the D3X. I called Nikon support to see if there is an adaptor required and they say it should mount without problem. Unless I am missing a piece of the puzzle, the DR-5 isn't made for the D800/810. Has anyone had success with this?

Here is my guess... I have a DR4, which comes with the DK 12 adapter ring. This fits my D800E perfectly. There is an optional DK 13 adapter ring, but I do not know what this is used for. Without the DK 12, the male threaded part of the DR4 is much too small to fit the D800 eyepiece.

I have the DR 5 and there is a ring that fits to it and goes right onto the D800. All the parts came with it. I'll have to find the box and see what else there is.

Found the box with the instructions. In the instructions under nomenclature # 6 adapter ring. There is also a picture.

    Thanks for the responses.

I went back to my D3X and see that the DK 12 is on it--guess I forgot installing it. It does fit both the D3X and the D800. Guess I'm going to need to buy an additional one if I plan on still using my D3X as I have transferred it to the D800. I'm keeping a DK17 on my d810 for the time being to see if I like it

Strange, I have a DK17M on my D800E and love it. It makes a difference especially if I am manually focusing.

    Did you solve your problem?

I am using a DR-5 with my D800 and it works fine. Don't remember putting on an extra ring on the DR-5, but I can check if you are interested.

thanks SB. I transferred the DK12 to my D800. I believe you might have put the DK12 ring on when you started using the DR-5 like I did. I forgot that it was on my D3x while it was at NPS repair. Once I got it back and examined I found I could just move it to the D800. The DR-5 is certainly useful for low angle shots--though less useful for horizontals when you have a Pocket Wizard on the hotshoe. I have to decide how much I need the DR-5 to see if I need to get two additional DK12 rings.
