Saw this guy a couple of years ago in Montreal. Must have been 20 degrees and he's blowing bubbles like it's August. D800 | 24-70 | 50mm | f/6.3 | 1/50s | ISO 500
This is an image of only the heat of the sun, i.e., from about 700-900nm. The filter appears black to the naked eye, and the sun shows up only in live view, where it must be manually focused. In spite of the fact this is the sun, the filter makes the exposure requirement of ISO 3200, f/8, at 1/25th sec.
More accurately, the transmission is about 1 % at 800nm, up to 88% at 900nm.
The B+W 093 Infrared Filter blocks the entire visible spectrum and looks completely opaque. Transmission only begins to exceed 1% at 800 nm, rising to 88% at 900 nm. The filter factor is in the range of 20 to 40.
