I have found the 70-200mm VRII with the TC-20EIII works extremely well for me. A 140-400mm f/5.6 zoom. I might be waiting for a 200-500mm f/4 from Nikon....??? The price may be the difficulty here, but it would be able to easily handle the TC14EIII, giving 280-700mm f/5.6....like WOW!
My local Best Buy (Louisville, KY. USA) has the 80-400 on sale for $1483.99. New, looks like the box has never been opened, what a deal! I purchased it today, can't wait to test it out!
Interesting One_oh_Four. I have used the latest TC1.7 on the older 70-200 F2.8 and the results have been excellent. I have had no issues with sharpness at 2.8 or 4 or 5.6. Most of the time I am shooting between F7 to F11.

I have heard that that combination was designed together. ie they were designed to work as a unit.

Hm, that would mean something in the TC is off.. The 70-200 is sharp as a katana, so I'd guess something is decentered or so in the TC. I'm going to have it checked...

Have you compared the 70-200mm VRII with the TC-20EIII, to the 80-400G at f5.6 ?
