I had spent most of the day helicoptering to and hiking on glaciers, shooting them from both ground level and from the air. On the way home, the pilot (who noted my long lens) told me that we'd look for moose and that if he got into a position where he could hover, I could shoot through the open door. I was in the co-pilot seat in a 3-point harness with my camera strapped to my body via a double black rapid harness. So we get to our first moose, and I couldn't quite get the angle I wanted. So without asking, I got one foot out on the runner out of the helicopter and shot like that, basically half in/half out. I hadn't considered that my wife, who was in a different helicopter, would see me. I caught quite an earful when we got back. Also, when I swung my legs out the door I must have kicked the lens cap for my 300mm out as I noticed it was missing. I called Adorama to order a new one when I got home and when I told the salesman how I'd lost it he was so psyched he comped me overnight shipping. D810 | 300mm + TC20 | f/6/3 | 1/2000s | ISO 1000
