The only deal I was looking at is the 14-24mm f/2.8 to complete my trinity. Even so I don't see myself going wide that often and I have a crop sensor (D500). May wait to pick that up next year when they have some good sales on the D850.

The 14-24 should be due for an update soon no?
Have you considered a 16-80mm f/2.8-4.0? It's a sharp, versatile, light lens that more than covers the 14-24 range except at the very short end which you say isn't all that important to you. And if you ever want super wide, 14mm on a DX isn't short enough anyway.
And the 16-80mm can open up to f/3.0 from anything lower than mid 20,s mm.
@HankB I have read multiple places that the 14-24 f/2.8 on DX is limiting for that price range which is why I haven't ran out and purchased it yet. Thanks for the suggestion, but only issue I have with the 16-80mm is the DX format. I plan on getting the D850 in the future and I don't want to spend $1,000 for a lens that won't get the most out of D850.
Now I do have my eye on that new fisheye (8-15mm). I know on the crop sensor, I won't get that perfect circle at 8mm like on full frame. Plus fisheye can get old if you over use it but for few times I shoot super wide, I don't think it would hurt. The lens was too new for any deals this year unfortunately. Thoughts?

The 14-24 on DX I'm sure works, but why would you use a lens that's close to $3000 on DX?

You could probably just use the 10-24mm.
For me with an interest in starscapes, using an FX lens on a DX body has a huge benefit - the ONLY way to get extremely low aberration images is to use the sweet spot of a larger format lens on a modern DX (D7100 and newer). Other than that, I agree.
@NSXTypeR The 14-24mm is normally $1,897 ($1,697 based on the current sale) not $3,000. The 10-24mm is $800 (on sale) and the 12-24 is $1,150 so don't you think it would be a better investment to spend the extra $800-1,000 on the 14-24mm and have a #1, a better lens, and #2 a more versatile lens (meaning it would work on FX perfectly as well).
The argument people make is that 14mm on DX isn't wide enough so you would have to purchase 10mm (giving you 15mm equivalent). Personally, I see more value in spending $3,000 on two different lens styles (fisheye and 14-24 f2.8) that work on both FX and DX than spending $2,800-$3,000 on basically two versions of the same style.
Now what did peak my interest as a stop gap for DX was the new 10-20 AF-P lens. Being only $310, it could be a steal. I love the AF-P 70-300 DX I have now. It is a great lens when I don't want to carry around the heavy 70-200 f2.8. But I decided to save the money instead.
The tradeoff with this super inexpensive and conveniently light weight lens is that it is fairly slow, though not a problem for most wide angle uses. This also makes it harder to focus, and yes, even wide angle lenses don't have infinite depth of field. Just consider how YOU may use it.

Yeap, free grip and $300 discount for the D750, works for me!
