It's really spectacular. Most of the cars on the track were running 120+ MPH which is 176 feet per second and thats moving. With the Nikon 800mm (very narrow field of view) its a challenge to get it framed much less expect the AF to get a lock.
I did figure out how to get the onboard GPS fired up and data location to get written to the EXIF file (had to read the Reference manual LOL).
And I just downloaded the Nikon Professional Setting Guide, Sport AF Edition and am digging through all 35 pages of that now. Its all about the D6 AF and what you can do with it.. The D6 even has face detection (Who Knew) and you can build custom focus groups and change its "behavior". There is a section on tracking subjects motion that includes settings for "steady" or "erratic" subjects. There is a joke in there somewhere...
Reading the Settings Guide is more intellectual simulating than watching TV.
LOL
Oh my.......very funny.
And very true.
Yes. I have not owned a TV since the 90s. I watch about three hours of Netflix every week - my 14 year old boy and I are going through the Star Trek episodes. First Enterprise, then the Classic, then Next Generation, Deep Space Nine etc...… Other than that, I would rather look at pictures.

Observation on D6. I forgot to turn it off and it sat for the entire night and part of the next day. Battery drained a good bit more than my D300s ever did. One of these days I guess we have to do, "The Martian," routine and dig up the big box of Plutonium... All-In-All I have to say I love this thing. I was surprised that it weighs about the same as my D300s w battery pack. It just feels right in my hand.
Keep in mind, my first DSLR was the D300s. Previously it was Nikon F, Nikon F3. ergonomics are right on par with what my hand remembers.

I was surprised when I read your comment about the weight. I owned the D200 for less than a year and sold it for the D300 and later bought the battery grip. That weight wasn't really bad, I kept it on the body a lot, like the ergonomics of having a grip for vertical pictures.
Please do post some pictures on the PAD thread.

I have found battery life on my D6 to be outstanding. Ran 4,047 images through it at a Porsche club event (on my Nikon 800mm F/5.6 with teleconverter) over 6 hours and still had 3/4 battery capacity available.

Wow, that is impressive. That speaks well for the battery life functionality of this camera.
This weekend took pictures at two youth baseball games and left the battery on 80% of the time with my D780. Took 200 photos and my battery was at 76%. Very happy with the improvement over the D750 that I used for over 5 years and I DID NOT have a complaint with the D750 battery life.

I've no complaints about my battery, there's just so very much going on with this beasty I feel I need a book where some highlights and recommended settings might be listed. Does anyone know if any books have been published on the D6 yet. I've found one, it's in Japanese and although I'm fascinated by their culture and have been since I was 6 years old, I simply can't read it. :-D
