    Ha. Yeah still trucking along but you see it at the limits. Fully cropped to 600 pixels to get that. Hoping to upgrade by end of summer if I can save the funds. I haven't had much time to shoot lately though so harder to justify more money just yet when I am not using it as much.

    not posted in a very long while....been travelling a lot...very interest moon thread... on my way to the airport Morrocco I noticed the moon and from themoving car got a shot with a plane in the process of landing. No techique just took the shot......

    I was once peering at the moon through my telescope when the ISS went past - it was only in silhouette for a few seconds. I had no ability to connect a camera to the telescope so it got away. Looks like a random pile of junk though - wierd.

    I recently tried to explain this effect (perspective affected by focal length of lenses) to people on this forum and it fell on deaf and disbelieving ears. This shot shows exactly my point.

    Nice Thread!!! I live in a place where the sky can be very clear with no human lights around. My D7100 has been able to produce some nice moon shots on manual, still settings. However the camera will not shoot video on manual settings at all. I have a Nikon USA case number on this. On P or A settings a moon still or video is worthless on any setting. If I use my D7000 with the same 70-300VR lens all of these settings work flawlessly and fast. Too bad as i figure with the crop settings the moon would shoot nice on video mode. In all normal lighting the D7100 stills and video are equal to or better than the D7000 with the same lens. Nikon still has not officially answered me. Nikon technical hotline (always good, always fast, and always available) were not able to help here but they say the D7100 should be able to take manual video. This issue is still unresolved. AGAIN I am overall VERY happy with my D7100. I have also found that certain lens seem to be able to work better than others on my camera and conditions. Video with the 12-24mm Nikkor lens are usually perfect. Focusing on video with this camera and the 70-300VR lens is pretty much the opposite. On occasion though the 70-300VR lens will focus normally on video. The moon is a great subject to compare with other serious photographers and there have been some really nice shots here!!     I wanted to get a model out and shoot them against the moon but in my area it was so windy that it didn't show until it was too high

    The "Super Moon" was peeking through the clouds and here is the result....but the best shots are between the crescent and first quarter to get more detail.

    Must admit I am not overly happy with the Greenlandic weather right now. Here I was sitting ready to take some (hopefully) great Super Moon shoots, but due to low-hanging clouds and midnight sun, I never even saw the damn thing :((

    The "Super Moon" was really perfect here in the Adirondack Mountains last night. I shot it in manual mode in both still and video and the results were very satisfying. Msmoto's shot is VERY nice. Very good thread!! I did my shooting with the D7100 and the 70-300VR. I am certain Tommie's shot above proves that great glass, and sturdy locked down tripod, and all can deliver exceptional results. In my own things I'd like to add would be a D800 and the 80-400VR. I may live in a great place to do moon photos but at some point gear does introduce some either benefits or shortfalls. This my friends is a really classic thread! A great friend of mine today is shooting the tight rope walk across the Grand Canyon. He is using the D800 and 80-400VR (the new one). One nice thing about Nikon Rumors is it does give you some great perspective on what your own dream outfit would be, and also pretty good insight if you are a very tight budget.
