This is the best i got :-( .. went to the beach as the moon was supposed to rise above the city .. it would have been awesome except for the clouds on the horizon so we did not see it till it was much higher.. also the wind was too hard even with a sturdy tripod there was movement.. it was way too dark to get get anything worth while
however the guy with the pentax K5 with GPS got great shots due to the built in astro tracker shooting with long exposures !

I had bad weather for the blood moon, but 2 nights later, I captured a very yellow moon. Judging by some of the great shots in this thread, I need to wait a few more days for peak moon shadows.
Nikon 1 V2, 80-400G @ 400mm (1080mm equiv on the V2), ISO 160, 1/125, f8
Did I hear "Moon"? This was shot with my 11,800mm lens..... Actually the Three College Observatory 0.81 meters Cassegrain reflecting telescope. Effective f/stop is about 13.5. Resolution is limited by the fact one has to shoot through the Earth's atmosphere which fuzzies up the image. The "round" format is due to the adapter we built for Nikon F mount, which has a narrow throat.
One can see where this image is on the moon if one looks at the upper center portion of this shot (best to click on it and view in Flickr) with 800mm, remembering the first image is inverted.
Argh, that makes me jealous. I don't have the lenses to get as long as that so my efforts will have to be more of an moonscape (a shot featuring the moon with terrestrial objects in frame).
My first attempt with the 200-500 on a very young waxing crescent. I shot this using live view on a d7200 at 500, f5.6, iso 400, and 1/160. I was too lazy to run upstairs and get the remote and noticed the camera was dancing like Charo when I tried to release the shutter. I'm going to take another run at it tomorrow with the mirror up AND the remote release.
That passed me by DenverShooter. No idea who Charo is.
@Capt_Spaulding: Try using exposure delay of up to 3 seconds, I always put it on 'My Menu' straight away when I get a new body. No extra gear necessary.
@spraynpray Sorry to confuse with the Charo reference. She's Spanish actress, singer, dancer, guitarist who pioneered a dance she calls the "Cuchi Cuchi." It's hard to describe but is composed primarily of pelvic embellishments.
Thanks for the reference to the exposure delay. Now that you mention it, I remember seeing it in the menu(s). Sadly, the camera's are substantially smarter than I.

I am shooting it along with members of my club and hope for clear weather!

Sadly this will not be visible in North America

You have to be old enough to know who Charo is!
