Can't decide on next move???

Evening peeps
Am lookin for a little input / advise

I currently have a D7000 with a compliment of lenses..
Do I....
A.... Buy a Nikon d610 with a 50mm lens that has 6months warranty left on the body for £800
B.... Buy Nikon D750 when released (a lot more cash involved)
C.... Wait for Nikon to release a DX body that is worth upgrading to

I love the d7000 but struggle with it's ISO capability and AF in low light.
I'm know I'm gonna have to sell basicly everything and start again if I choose A or B cos of switching to FX
Is the d610 worth the price?? Or should I take the d750 for the better ISO and AF???
Will Nikon release a DX??
Your thoughts welcome

for A. Make sure the warranty is transferable to you. I beleive it only applies to the original owner.

For DX to FX you will loose out on some money but if you really want FX that may be the way to go. Depending what lens you already have you can use them on your FX body without a problem and then you can upgrade to a diffrent lens if needed.

What lenses do you have? What type of shooting are you doing that require higher ISO setting? What is your budget?

How about selling the D7000 and two of your current lenses and upgrading to the D750 and a 50 mm lens for now. Then save for more FX lenses?
    Just a thought.
    I'm selling my D7100 for the D750......

Yes there is a big difference between D610 and D750. Go to the Nikon web site and run a side-by-side comparison.

You also may want to compare the D7000 to the D7100 but that is tough to do since the D7000 specs are not posted on Nikon's web site. You can Goggle it or perhaps Ken Rockwell's web site will have he D7000 specs posted.

Give some of us time to look at your lens and subjects that you shoot...will have ideas for you.

I've looked at the d7100 in comparison to my d7000, bit worried about it being a little late in the day for the d7100 as it's been out a while now, also is it much of an upgrade to my d7000???
Was sort of hoping that Nikon would magic a d7200 out at photokina :)

    Hi all,

@Greenwise - What you what might want to consider (I'm sort of going to do a similar path) - is to sell the DX body and get the D750. The Expeed 4 processor should provide a better image for you and work with your existing lenses in DX mode - that is giving you a DX image that _should be somewhat better_, but in a DX format.

As you can afford it, you can sell off some of the DX lenses and get FX replacements.

I happen to have FX lenses and DX lenses, some of them older than many of the users of this website, but they still work very well.

    Whatever you decide, good luck!

    My best,

    Mike

I'm in the same boat, but have a D300. I've held out for the fantasy D400 as long as I can. I have been selling most my DX lenses and replaced them with 1 FX lens, the 24-70 2.8. I already had the 70-200 2.8, so had some reach already. All my left over money is going towards the D750. I figure at some point I can replace the 12-24 and the 18-200 with something FX if I really feel I need it. I decided to keep my 10.5 since I've seen some pretty cool stuff shot from an FX body with that lens. Plus I will be fine with 11MP in crop mode, since I currently don't see a whole lot more than that. For me the Expeed processor and the focusing system sold me looking between the 610 and 750. I couldn't imagine going from 51 point AF to the 610. I have plenty I'm upset with that I'm giving up coming from the D300, but not enough to make me wait longer for a D9xxx or D400. Good luck

It use to be DSLR model replacement was every 18 months and it has drifted to 24 to 36 months The D7100 has been available for less than 24 months. The last rumor I saw was it was due for replacement in 2015.

I came from a D300 to the D610, you probably will be disappointed with its 39 compared to the 51 point AF.I do product and landscapes for $.Its an awesome for those purposes, I have learned with girlfriends 3yr grandson that F4 glass on D610 is slow but my 50mm 1.8 and it is awesome. I hope this helps. The step up to FX is big but once you do you'll never go back. :))

I think that you should get the cheapest FX camera you can get your hands on and figure out what DX glass you can sell to buy new FX glass.

Then you can focus on upgrading what really matters for image quality, the glass. If you need to save money on the camera, you can get any camera you want for any price you want. The question is "when".

Thanks for the info. Your budget is going to be a primary factor. IMHO, in order to take full advantage of an FX sensor, I would recommend getting an FX glass. This topic however might bear some fruit. Praise for DX on FX

Before you go and put any money down, or sell your gear, have a look through you images and see what focal length you have been shooting most at or which of the lenses mentioned, is your "go to lens." This info will help in knowing what lens you should consider getting to go with the D750. Which is the body to go with given your needs.

As Golf007sd says ;your budget is an issue
for low light FX is best but you ideally want some f 1.4 primes or the f2.8 zooms and they are all expensive
the D750 should be better than the D610 but if buying a D750 does not allow you to get the FX glass you need, the D610 seems your only option

@Greenwise: Option A or C. C is boring as it only lets you wait for Nikon to come out with a new DX camera you like :-)

Option A is your best bet as you are on a budget. Dont be too sad that you are not going with option B. Image quality will be about the same between D750 and D610 as long as you are shooting RAW. Jpegs might be a better out of the D750 but not by a huge amount.

D750 has faster FPS - for most kinds of shooting you can find a way to work around this limitation.
D750 has a better AF - again you will have to be in pretty demanding situations not to be able to use a D610.
In 2016 Nikon will come out with a new shiny toy that will make both D750 and D610 look old :-)

Go with the D610 for now. Slowly sell off your DX gear and buy some good quality FX lenses. No use in having a camera if you dont have any glass to put in front of it.

Difference in image quality between D7000 and D610 is significant - you will be happy I think.

Option A it is, I'm going to get the D610 and 50mm f/1.8
I'll try the D610 with my DX lenses and see what goes on, although i can see a Nikon Zoom-Nikkor G ED 24-70 mm f/2.8 AF-S Lens coming with the rest of my budget :D

Thanks for all the input peeps :)

I was in the same boat a few years ago. I had a D5000 and D300s with a few lenses. I wanted to go FX and knew It would require upgrading glass. I bought a D700 and realized that was the way to go. Took a while to sell the DX equipment and slowly I built my FX glass. Like everything it takes a while but in a a year or two you'll be happy you did it.

    +1 @autofocus.
It also helps if you position your lens for the move. I only have one DX lens to sell (17-55mm F2.8) when I move to FX and the D7100. The 2 other DX lens in my signature are the wives lens. Of course, I may keep the D7100.

I've been and got the D610....

what a great piece of kit :) very similar in layout to my D7000 so no pain regarding getting to know most things..

I've sold my D7000 and the 18-105 although I'm gonna keep my other DX lenses for a while incase the mysterious D9300 or D7200 makes a surprise guest appearance ;)

Ive got a 50mm f/1.8 and My 105 macro as a start although the 24-70 keeps mysteriously appearing on my web browser :D moment of weakness n i may push the 'add to cart' button :)>-

We discuss the quality of images between bodies, e.g., D610 vs. D750, and yet, in so many cases unless I am up to 20" x 30" prints, I cannot tell the difference between my D90, D4, D800E.

Of course, there is a difference, huge, but my point is, except for some special features each has, one can get excellent results from almost any of the nikon bodies, providing the optics are first rate.

The difference in the final result between a D610….. I doubt I could tell any. The features, again, something like a tilt rear screen, this may be the real deciding factor.

You are going to love that lens. The images are fantastic. In a year or two when you are flushed with $500 go buy a 1.4 or 1.7 TE to extend the reach. I waited way to long to buy mine...after I got back from Alaska...big big mistake.
