What do you mean different things happen when the controls are used? The same controls yield different results?
  • spraynprayspraynpray Posts: 6,545Moderator
For instance: I would look on the top display to see the ISO, but now I get a pop-up on the rear screen. There are less functions now showing on the top screen because it is now smaller.
    Always learning.

ISO is displayed on the top panel, is it not?

    Hi all,

My battery seems to drain fairly quickly with the Tamron 24-70mm on it with the vibration turned on. With another lens without VR, the battery is fairly calm. With the 24-70 and the vibration control turned off, it seems much, much better.

I've had a couple of exposures come up bad on the computer - beats me why.

    Shot about 10K so far.

    My best,

    Mike

The ISO does show on top on my D750 and on the rear screen. So you can see it either place as your turn the command wheel. It's not a problem with me, perhaps the smaller size bothers @spraynpray.

I will admit on the D7100 more info is shown on the top display, I kind of miss seeing those settings but have adapted to the smaller top display.

From what I understand, the data missing from the top LCD is pushed to the rear screen, so when you push the left button for Picture Control, Quality or WB (all of these), the rear display lights up and shows those settings. Might explain its greater battery demands if you adjust things that way. I would guess that WiFi is the biggest new battery drain. One way to test is to disable it in settings and see how your mileage goes.

Sorry guys, posted in a hurry and have been out all day.

I meant white balance not ISO. I know it pops up on the rear screen, and I am starting to get used to it more but I still prefer the D7100 at the moment.

My wi-fi is always off until I need it so it isn't wi-fi that is the culprit.

I don't mind the rear screen coming on when I'm adjusting something, but I'm not so keen on it staying on displaying the normal info screen after I've finished adjusting ISO or WB, until I either turn it off manually or press the shutter button halfway....

Apart from the one time I enabled WiFi so that I could turn on encryption (and play around with it a bit, obviously :D), it's been switched off on mine..

I have noticed that the battery charge level drops about 1% per day when I haven't even turned the camera on..
(If I don't use my D7100 for a few days, the battery charge level stays the same)

Do you guys see the same sort of behaviour?

Like spraynpray, I'm hoping for a firmware update or something from Nikon that makes it better (I have already installed the recent fw update)..

    Cheers,
    Baldy ;)

The question was asked earlier about battery drain. I did a two concerts on Tuesday and Saturday. Took 100 pictures on Tuesday and 75 on Saturday. Battery drain was more then I expected but not excessive. Not an issue for me.

Sounds like normal behaviour for a new battery, it takes a number of full charge cycles (10-20) before the battery starts operating at peak efficiency, and should keep to that level until there are 200+ cycles.
If I take a good photo it's not my camera's fault.

    Hi all,

The battery drain does seem to be rather high to me, too.

Haven't had the camera long enough (nor has anyone) to say with any accuracy to what degree.

    My best,

    Mike

I do find it interesting, because Thom Hogan thought battery life was very good, which he mentioned in his review of the camera last week.

I concur that there is something to say about battery getting better with usage. The battery seems very efficient, close to D7000 performance. Granted I have turned off the auto review and a bunch of other battery wasting features.

Agree with you PB_PM. It does take a number of full charges for the battery to operate at peak efficiency. I am on my 3rd charge so figure after 6 it should be better.

    Nikon D750
    24.0-120.0 mm f/4.0
    ƒ/4.5 65.0 mm 1/30 800 iso

Could have never made that shoot with the old D300. BTW Love the D750 and haven't had any flair problems. I call this shot "Fully weather sealed" ;-) Everyone I've shown this to asks me if it's HDR! Nope just a RAW file will minimal editing in ACR.

Excellent view. The older towns have such buildings. It's nice to see people get out in the snow and take pictures. FYI, live in Sun Prairie, WI so I know all about shooting in zero degrees and that lovely beautiful white fluffy stuff. =))

It's been a few days since anyone has said something wonderful about the D750 so I thought I should.

I've had my D750 for a few months now, haven't shoot a lot but I've come to the opinion that it may be the greatest camera from Nikon in a long time....... Okay hear me out. At least it is the sweet spot no doubt.

    1. $2300 USD Not cheap but affordable. I call this a reasonable price point for a camera which delivers Pro-quality images!

    2. Is the D4 better? Is it $4000 USD better? No way! Sure if you're a Pro photojournalist and you need a camera to take to war that can take a beating and keep on working, sure you need 6K worth of magnesium framed monster to keep you sensor safe. The rest of us don't need it.

    3. Is the D810 better? Well I'd say it's different. The D810 is the Megapixel monster! Who needs 36 mp? Well if you're the guy/gal in the studio doing product shots or taking the huge panorama landscapes to print big, real big. And a just over $3K USD it's a great deal when compared to a Hasselblad. So if you need a D810 you get a D810 but if you don't need it you can save a G and get a D750 which does some things much better like shoot in the Dark!

    4. Df? Okay I really have no idea what Nikon was thinking with this one. It's a lot of money to spend to look Cool! If you got the cash and want, no need to look cool by all means go buy one. If you're a shooter and want to make great images get the D750 or really anything else.

    5. The D610 in some ways the D750's little sister, nice camera, hate the ergonomics. The big question here is the D750 worth $600 USD more? For me the better hand grip alone is worth it! But beyond that better focusing, better low light performance, better processor..... Yeah hands down, way more than $600 USD better!

    6. The D7100, well I'm sorry folks in every way, shape and form the D750 blows away everything in the DX line up. The 2 compelling reasons to stick with a DX camera at this point is, I got a lot of DX lenses or I just don't have the money.

    7. The unicorn in the room? The much discussed, mythical creature of my lust and desire, the D400/D9xxx or the D7200. This could be a game changer, if and in the world of Nikon a big if, if Nikon comes out with a high end DX camera that looks something like the D750 but has a super duper 24+ MP DX sensor, that camera could be the sweet spot depending on the price point and IQ! But I stopped holding my breath a long time ago!

So I declare the D750 camera of the Year and perhaps the best thing Nikon has done in a long, long time!

Long live the D750 and Long live Nikon!

BTW did the flair test on my D750! No flair for me.

    Yours Truly

    AndrewZ (D750 Fan)
