    @Hammie, did you reformat the SD card in the camera?

    @Hammie - Had the same issue with my Sandisk Extreme Pro 32gb. Was wondering if the card is faulty but I ejected it and replaced it back and all is fine since. I had it formatted when I first placed it so not sure that was the issue. Wondering if you had the same issue with a Sandisk card?
  • HammieHammie Posts: 258Member
    @Photobug

    I always format in camera. However, that time I had shot some photos the night before, downloaded them to my laptop, then put the card back in the camera and forgot to format before shooting again. That may have been the issue. The funny thing is that I got about 20-25 shots off before the error occurred.

    @D750newbie

    I don't have a Sandisk card. Mine were 64GB Lexar Platinum II cards (200x). I have a pair of 32GB Samsung PRO cards coming today. However, since switching my Slot 2 card to the Slot 1 position and reformatting them in camera, I have not had the issue.

    @Hammie, interesting. I have done that same process and put the card back into the camera and taken pictures and not had a problem.

    Typically after coping images from the memory card to the computer via card reader, I reformat the card in the camera which deletes the images and I am ready to shoot. There are times I don't. Strange situation. The good news is that the Lexar car is working in slot #2.

    I have never had any problem with SanDisk memory cards.

    If you do, call them and they will exchange them for free. All of mine came with a lifetime warranty. Have look at this table to see where yours is.

    I decided to try out how shadow recovery is on the D750 tonight - here's a shot where I metered for the sky so that I wouldn't lose the orange and blue.

    @Hammie:

    I often remove a card and upload images from it and replace it in the camera with the images on it and do not reformat until I am sure they have backed up. I carry on shooting and because I have 'do not import suspected duplicates ' ticked in LR, they do not import the next time I import the newer images. It slows down my import process a little, but I have never had your error. If I were you I would start by doing as @Golf007sd suggests and get a new card off Sandisk and see if it still happens. If it does, Nikon service can sort it.
    Always learning.

    I purchased a pair of 32GB Samsung PRO cards to replace the Lexar ones. The Samsung cards were rated very well when paired with the D750. I always label my cards, so I know which one gave me trouble. I am considering asking Amazon for an exchange on the card since it seemed to be isolated to that one card and it is less than two weeks old.

    BTW, I have the same setting on LR where duplicates are not imported.

    I've just seen that Nikon are apparently going to start a free "inspect and adjust" service for those affected by the "flare/reflection" issue...

    Way back on page #18 @PitchBlack and several others commented about the spacing of the AF points. In fact PichBlack left this message for me on this subject:
    @Photobug: I have complained bitterly about this problem in a couple of different threads. It makes composing some shots extremely difficult at f1.4.
    vs D7100
    Here is the comparison between the D7100 and D600 as posted by someone:
    image
    I borrowed KockKnock's upload on the AF points. Never have I had an issue on DX DSLR's with the spread of the AF points. I have noticed as I take more and more pictures that the AF points on the D750 are just too tight. @PitchBlack is right. It's very annoying.

    After shooting over 225 macro images the last 3 days it's a pain in the neck. I am learning to frame and recompose to workaround this issue. Otherwise I love the D750. I have been shooting lots of images for the Rainbow forum and tons of Amaryllis Minearva flower for PAD. I finally have some violets and purple images to upload, too.

    @Photobug: Get yourself the Nikon DK-21M Magnifying Eyepiece. You will be much happier and will solve your problem.

    Why all the comparison between the D600/D610 and the D800/D810? I thought you had the D750 so isn't the D750 better than the D600/D610 for size of AF point field? :-/

  • PhotobugPhotobug Posts: 5,751Member
    Yes the D750 is better than the D600/D610 for the spread in AF points. It's just not as wide as the D7100. I thought there was a comparison between the D750 and D7100 but could not find it so I grabbed the D7100/D600/D610 comparison.

    It's a "minor" issue and not a major inconvenience. I was doing a lot of macro work this past week and that is when the inconvenience really jumped out at me.

    I wonder if live view would be a good solution for shooting macro since the focus points are irrelevant in that mode. I might even have to try that out myself.

  • spraynprayspraynpray Posts: 6,545Moderator
    Live view? Depends on your idea of macro. If it involves static subjects and a tripod, then yeah, live view may help but if it involves insects that are only stopping for 2-10 seconds and never actually keep properly still, you don't have time for any kind of focus except manual and swaying until the subject is in focus under those circs I can't imagine not having the camera touching my head.

    So I've spent a good amount of time with the D750 now and I have to say it's not left my hands since the first shoot I used it on. I'm not one to be lengthy, but here goes.

    The RAW files coming out of the camera look great with their tones, clarity and contrast.

    The autofocus is fast and accurate.

    Coming from the D700 I find the controls really great. I changed the record button to change the ISO so I can now change every setting I need with my right hand without pulling the camera away from my eye.

    It's light and the grip fits great in my hand.

    The focus points are quite tight and a bit of a pain for what I do, but not a huge deal breaker.

    @nek4life - cool face name. I just finished shooting another 30-35 shots this morning. Tomorrow will try the live view mode as you suggested. For my macro work shooting "non-moving flowers", it's an option.

    Ahh true. I'm usually using a tripod in a studio-like (ok my living room) setting.

    Macro is a whole different beast. Most modern tech just doest work with it,. AF and VR ? turn them off, Auto ISO? forget it. Only thing that helps is nikon's CLS iTTL flash. Its awesome ! .. but even that doesn't work when the subject is small and isolated. so its back to all fully manual everything! That's the fun and frustration of Macro.

    That is why every Winter the wife buys two Amaryllis bulbs for me and then she plants them in December and I have macro work to shoot for the entire month of January. This year as in the past she staggers them for me by two weeks so I only have one plant to work with. We got Amaryllis Minerva this year, very tall, 26" and the flowers are ~7" in diameter. Shooting these Minerva Amaryllis lets me focus on lightning and composition. As you said it can be frustrating but it helps sharpen my skills in the winter when I do the least amount of shooting.

    Coming soon to PAD are a whole series of pictures as well as to the Rainbow forum. Got over 300 shots to work through. :((

    @photobug you have a loving wife.
    Have you considered a camranger or similar it also does focus stacking so that might be an option for the macro work. there are other models at lower cost. Just wondering.

    Thanks for the great comment on the wife of 44 years. To answer our question, no have not thought of options for focus stacking but that is an excellent idea.
    Finally, the image quality from the D750 is excellent. Really happy with the camera.
