    I think they are about the same ... dxo says the 18-140 is the sharpest kit lense. But I think they are almost the same.. although I have only had a short play with the 18-108 in the shop.. the only thing thats is sure is that the reach of the 18-140 is more than the 105 :-)

    PS: I have the 18-140. i have a mini review on this forum somewhere...

    The 140 is better at both the long and short ends than the 105, just look at the MTF charts on http://imaging.nikon.com. Also look at sample photos. At the wide end there is a ton of corner fuzziness on the 105. Also the VR is at least two stops better on the 140 and the 140 has a metal mount. The 140 is a 2013 lens and the 105 from 2008. The 140 is a bit bigger and heavier, but not much.
