Recently i found deformations of rubbered grip of my Nikon D7100. I know that it hapens sometimes, after long time of using heavy lenses. I have never used any heavy lens and after 6 months of using only 16-85 f3,5-5,6 there are numerous deformations on rubber. This is my second dslr from Nikon, first was D5000 and after more than five years a had no problems.
Is that problem only on my D7100 or is there anyone else with common issues?

You can see those deformations here :

Sorry for my poor English, it's my second language.

    Hi,

@JR510 - In the US - Nikon USA warranties the product for 12 months and I would send in back for repair.

I hope your country backs the product, too. That looks defective.

    My best,

    Mike

Haven't noticed any of this on my D7100 after similar amount of time and about 3000 snaps. Agree with Mike - get Nikon to fix it.

No defect of this nature has been brought to our attention. Having said that, my D4 rubber grip was replaced by Nikon service center when I took it in and had them calibrate all my lenses to work properly with it. I had no issue with it personally, but the tech saw something he or she did not like and corrected it. Send it in like Mike said.

This does happen over time with higher end bodies. That would not have happened to the D5000, since it did not have a real rubber grip, but rather a soft plastic that was built into the body. I believe the D3100 was the first low end Nikon body to receive a true rubber grip, and I think all low end bodies have since that time.

This started happening to the rear grip on my D700 when it was three years old. If you look on flicker this is a common thing for Nikon bodies with a true rubber grip. That happened to my D200 as well. Not within 6 months though. The grips themselves are simply held on by 3M tape, so don't expect miracles. It's also known that the oil in some peoples hands can cause it to ware out faster.
If I take a good photo it's not my camera's fault.

One issue is whether the camera has ever been subjected to high heat….could have happened in shipping or post delivery…..

Mine is 7 months old and I have not seen any issue with the grip deforming.

Suggest it go back to Nikon Service for replacement.

It may appear again if it is caused by say, carrying the camera without a strap or it touching other items when it is in your bag. Give some thought to the cause (if there is one) and perhaps modify your habits if you don't want it to happen again.
    Always learning.

That just looks normal to me. Rubber comes unglued and stretches over time - especially if you grip it hard or "play" (rub your fingers over it) when shooting.

Time to re-glue a bit yourself. We have to be willing to do some maintenance on these complex consumer products.
