been staying at home lately, I can't really go around from place to place, due to disability of one of my legs temporarily suffering from pulling. So.... just got this one here from my old post on flickr.
no cutting edges and editing.....guess i am lazy.. lol
A fun perspective. Sometimes when I put thought into an image I wonder if it conveys to others in the same way. I liked how the line of the road followed to the couple and then beyond them. Kind of like life into and beyond marriage.
Something very different today; this picture was taken in 1940 in Delta County, Colorado, by Mr.Russell Lee It is part of a collection of vintage photographs that was archived in the Prints and Photographs Div. of the Library of Congress for over 70 years; finally, a decision was made to release them all to the public, in an attempt to have them viewed by as many people as possible. They were all printed from original color slides, (and if I'm not mistaken, this was before Kodachrome was invented.) I remember using Kodachrome in the early 1950's and it was pretty new then, ( and it had an ASA of 10 at the time ) The old automobiles in front of the haystack all belong to migrant peach pickers.
I went to a Bon Jovi gig at a stadium in Wales, and decided not to risk taking the D800 in, and my wife brought the little Pentax Q I bought her for Christmas. Bags were being checked on the way in, and big DSLRs are frowned on. We weren't too far from the stage but not too close either - it didn't come out bad I feel, and it was a good show. The support acts got the raw deal as it poured with rain before the show started.
MInd you she had it set at 16:9 and 6mp and lowest quality. I changed it to native 4:3 and 12mp failry quickly and this was still at lowest quality jpg.
@squamishphoto: I really like it, but if you're concerned, the d800 does so much better in the shadows than in the highlights that I *as a rule* underexpose ALL shots by 2/3 of a stop and set my default import at +2/3. That way I never lose anything because of blown out highlights because 30 seconds with the wacom and an adjustment brush leads to perfection. Some may call it cheating... I call it harnessing the full power of the d800's 14+ stops of dynamic range.
This was just a case of working with patchy overcast sky and when I first set the power on the strobes it was much cloudier and darker then when I took this shot as well as others afterwards. I tend to underexpose for the same reasons you described and have done so ever since I first went to FX with the D700, but this was harder to manage than I had first imagined it would. I found using a PA holding a big white board much easier once I realized how much power a 400w strobe was adding. A grid might have been smart too. Great sports shots, btw. You seem inseparable from your 200-400f4. :]

Brought some studio strobes outside for this shot, but Im not entirely satisfied because of a few subtle hot spots.
