So after deciding to go with the 20, 28 and 50mm manual focus lenses in my signature for landscapes, I needed ND filters to exploit their full potential. I settled on a 3, 5 and 10 stop set of 3 Singh Rays. This is my first attempt with the ND filter using the 10 stop. I tried a variety of filter combinations and exposure times. I like this one the best.
I had the privilege of photographing the 3 week old grandson of one of my coworkers. Here is one of the photos that I envisioned even before arriving on location. D800 | Nikkor 85mm f/1.4G @ f/1.4 | 1/320 | ISO 160
Next time someone says, "Hey that grasshopper looks like an old man with no teeth," you'll know why. D800 | 105mm + 36 and 12mm spacers | f/8 | 1/250s | ISO 400
Same shot as yesterday, but no tripod or filter. Had to compromise either ISO or aperture to get a decent shutter speed. ISO 280 was not much of a sacrifice.
Westendboy, Great capture. Its difficult given the range of lighting that exists in the image. But a lot depends on what story you want to tell and how you can tell that most powerfully. Can you try the image again on a cloudy day, without the sky there. That way, you can slow the water way down and not burn out the sky?

I would love to go back, but it is a 900 mile drive. But you are bang on, it was basically the bottom of a dark hole. Thank god for the D800.

I think I like the filtered image better.
