<bI have been resizing mine to 2000 pixels wide (or tall - whichever is the longest side) as my default for web applications. It seems to go smoothly at that size. Small size on the D5100 is 2464x1632 pixels. With JPG basic the small file size is about half a megabyte without resizing. JPG normal is about 1 megabyte without resizing. Those seem to work fine. So my experience has been that I can shoot images for my wife's web use at Small size and JPG Basic or Normal without resizing. I cannot really see any difference between JPG Basic or Normal on facebook or most other web sites.
For my own use its different. Flicker can handle large files
Thanks, good information on pictures for FaceBook.
I have only adjusted file size for eBay and Facebook and as you pointed out, Flicker is fine with large files.

Mike, I would say many of the ideas expressed have been quite thoughtful and imaginative even if their chance of becoming true is remote. Repetitive? Yes. Highly speculative? Yes. There is a strong interest in such a camera and we simply have nothing to go on other than our own speculations.
If many people didn't find this thread interesting why would there be 57 pages and 1,412 posted comments? Can you find a NR thread with more participation? That should indicate many people find it interesting.

Or that we all need to get lives. (kidding, I promise)
Besides the D400 I am secretly hoping for a great new update of the Sigma SD1 Merrill. I don't know if it would make me exchange my lenses but it would be fun and maybe put extra pressure on Nikon (I already have Sigma lenses but with Nikon mount).
The length of this thread even given people repeat posting is certainly an indication of the interest in the D400 DSLR concept. I cannot and do not believe that Nikon will leave the sector to Canot. Sorry, Freudian slip - Canon.
Photobug I'm sure they do but we are just a few. We need 10's of thousands to make them notice I think, sorry to say. We need to get every NIKON guy/gal to stand up (even if you don't need one but think it's good) to voice an opinion and then it could happen. How do we do that?
I will buy a 7DM2 if Nikon doesn't answer the challenge within a few months of its release. I've been toying with owning kits from both for a while anyway. I'm still thinking about a refurb D300s as an "interim" body, even though @Golf007sd is trying privately to get me to go with the D800 instead ;-)
Both D400 and 7D2 will come close to each other. I think neither company thinks it's high priority right now. But once one company releases one, the other company will be forced to release their version very soon too.
Well, another year of my predictions about the D400 up in smoke.....
As we do not know what goes on in the mind of the Nikon brain trust, the D400 may be a project Nikon has simply scrapped due to the economy. Possibly the name will be associated with something entirely new. Or the D7200 etc. will be more a pro-sumer body as we would see the D400 in our dreams.
Whatever comes along, and at whatever date, this will have to be a high level performer to compete. So, back to ISO 12,800, 9 FPS, D4 focusing, buffer for about 30-50 RAW images, and the pro ergonomics.
a quick one - Nikon has been using Sony chips - but with their own tweaks (this at least was my understanding on eg the 24MP one). With all those rumors around a Sony mirrorless FF appearing within shortly - are we eventually seeing a tweaked version thereof as the substitute of the D400 for which I like others have been waiting for ages ?
If you are asking will the D400 be mirrorless, then that has been discussed previously on this thread and it was thought that the viewfinders and autofocus is not up to scratch for it to be so. In my own personal opinion, I believe Nikon will dip a toe into the mirrorless by replacing a DSLR lower down the range than the pro level.

?? But isn't that the nikon1 system ? I think the FX/DX mirrorless will be simply a scaled up Nikon1

may be this tread should put in quarantine, until the main BLOG gives at least a hint; Nikon may produce a semi pro dx
