The issue I'd guess is that Canon and Nikon both preffer to sit on the sidelines when it comes to a high level ASPC DSLR because they know the market is shrinking. When one finally jumps the other will likely be forced to follow suit.
Yes, there are many Nikon lens adapters which allow use on Canon EF mount bodies. And, I think some folks even use these on a regular basis.
As to D400…..for goodness sakes, it looks like Nikon has just poured its resources into the new Df, not into the D400 development. I fail to understand all this, but will patiently wait for the pro DX body.
I for one AM NOT PATIENTLY waiting for a D400 Nikon. The Nikon DF is apparently an anti-video, FX rules move on the part of Nikon. The D800E looks so far above these lately introductions from Nikon they seem to be moving BACKWARD to me.

Maybe Davey, but if you look at the whole world market and all ages/abilities, my money is on it being a success even if you and I will not get one. It is pretty though isn't it? That is enough for some people, and the fact that it makes others look discerning is enough for those too and so by the time you add all those together, the thing is a success. Now if that success makes Nikon able to take a punt on the D400, I'm all for it!
@moreorless Canon is not sitting on the sidelines. They will release the 7D Mark II in the spring. There have been two separate leaks about the Canon camera and it looks like the 70D was a trial run on the sensor for it. The speed on the 70D is already not that bad (feels faster than the 7100 for me at least), and if Canon can tweak it to higher fps in the new 7D, I would not be surprised to see something at 10fps or higher come this spring.
@Photobug Nikon could do exactly what I suggested for the D800 and other cameras: make it so that every other RAW file is written to the other SD card to help clear the buffer and maintain the fps shooting rate. It wouldn't require any new hardware and would make existing Nikon users feel appreciated.
@Msmoto If Canon really wanted to deal a significant blow to Nikon, they should write the firmware to allow full Nikon lens capabilities like autofocusing, etc. with an adapter on Canon bodies. That would lower the barriers to switching into the Canon system and force Nikon to rethink their market strategy. Imagine your favorite Nikon lens with full autofocus capabilities, etc. on the new 7D Mark II at 10 fps and a deep buffer...
per haps a good way to explain to nikon what type of DSLR wildlife and sport photographs are wating for (D400 with the most advanced technology available, no stupid limitation to prevent the sale of D4 as D600/D800, Df/D4 etc etc ) https://webc.nikonimaging.com/form/pub/info/df_en there is a free zone to explain your technical need If there is enough testimony about the need of D400, per haps ...
many of us on this topic are waiting for a D400 but all signs show us that there is a high probability to never see a D400 so if everyone who are waiting for a D400 can take a few minutes to explain to NIKON what we are waiting for, we could have a hope again. https://webc.nikonimaging.com/form/pub/info/df_en
if there are enough request about D400 on this survey about the feeling on Df ... Per haps NIKON could understand that the request for D400 is strong.
Nikon is pulling a D100 all over again... like the D100 vs D70, the lower mid body outspeced the higher in most categories like a D7100. However nikon knew that the body and a few features on the D100 made it a more "pro" camera so it milked what it could out of it for way too long. There was a huge amount of anticipation for the D200 which not only eventually came out but sold like hotcakes

I just took the poll and made some pretty sharp comments about my dissatisfaction with the way they are bring out products and the things that they are leaving off the newer products.
@DaveO: I have not seen the poll you filled out but it is the way I feel too! Guess I need to find out what Nikon's poll asked. I also will write another letter to Nikon USA but recently they don't even answer. Which certainly can be taken as they are not officially listening! The market for a D400 would be large according to the biggest camera store in the USA where I asked about that today. Also I was also told by them that the D800 video is actually somewhat behind the D7100. The D7100 I have shoots pretty decent video. Today I looked at Black Magic video camera and Canon's $6,000 video only DSLR hybrid. Maybe that is how I will go? Still it would seem like 1080p video, amazing FPS, etc., could be easily be with a DX D400. And come in at $1,999 or LESS.
@DaveyJ: If you look at ano's post 5 up from here, you can click on the link which will get the to a Japanese survey then click translate to English and voila! Fill it out as you like.
Isn't this the first time a 7D mk.II rumor is rated as "A good rumor from a known source" - the second highest rating? Haha, it's not even a Nikon rumor, and still it's the best "news" in this thread for ages. (It's definitely time to get out and nail that kitten mid-air photo I'v been thinking about for a while.)

There have been about 10 for the D400
make it so that every other RAW file is written to the other SD card -
The teckie' s on the forum, suggest it is not a simple as that eg you would need at least two processors
If Canon really wanted to deal a significant blow to Nikon ..... ...
there is this thing, called copyright and patent law . it would also put a very big dent in Canons lens sales
I will stick with my D4, thank you….

Thanks for the link! I filled it out and also requested that they release the new 300mm DO lens, and soon!
