November looks like it is off to quite a start! This is my idea of a sexy lady Last week I posted a captive Saw Whet, Today I found one in the wild! Nikon D800, Tamron 150-600 at 600mm F8, 1/60th (HH), ISO 800, built in flash
And somebody needs to remind people that putting a -1 on somebody's photo is rude, trollish, and deters participation. We want everyone to feel comfortable posting here and not be made to feel bad. I personally like the photo @WestEndBoy.
No offense, but why have a rating system at all? Has the -1 been used constructively in other scenarios?
To me, as a newb, after several months here and posting some shots, nothing is more of a determent than having no feedback, no comments, especially for us out there using Photography as a hobby, trying new things, and would love some direction. Even a negative comment will evoke a thought/response. Maybe some constructive criticism added to the -1 would be a better approach.
This has nothing to do with @WestEndBoy member's picture, as I love it, as I also posted a spider shot myself, and agree the -1 is not warranted without hearing the objection, but this is a topic I often wondered about when seeing some pics. Unfortunately I am using this opportunity in bringing this up for consideration.
FJMinor, I agree execpt in the PAD. To VIPMediastar's point, we have a thread just for that that was set up for that purpose. This was done and agreed after a considerable debate.
Ok, thanks for the feedback, did not know about the critique thread, although no activity for 3 months, maybe I will wake it up. However, as I see your point on the majority of trolls use the -1 as disruptive, maybe this site can make a small update, if the member clicks on the -1, a pop-up requires some text input for the -1 reason, if not filled in, they cannot leave the -1 rating, perhaps to curtail the trolling?
I walked slowly toward this squirrel while he was eating. Got close enough to use a bit of flash. This pic is the last, closest one before he took off. I had to remove redeye afterward. Nikon D7100 AF-S Nikkor 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR ISO 450 300mm 0 EV f/5.6 1/250
@fjminor: there are lots of places out there where you can post photos and get your work trashed. We have known of many people here who have been deterred from posting because they feel ashamed. The PAD is not a combat zone. We are trying to keep it as friendly and good-natured as possible.
+1 @PitchBlack I normally have a thick skin but one of our NRF colleagues clicked on one of my PAD image and then left me a very negative comment on Flickr. A friend saw it and sent me a note and I actually checked the comment and after reading it deleted the image which removed the comment. Uncalled for.
The key is the tone and manner in which the feedback is left.

I've been asked a couple of times if I shoot video from the bands that I've taken photos of so I thought I'd probably should get some help getting started with shooting video with DSLR's. So when I said that to my friends they all went "you just want to go back to Riga!" ... What I thought we were going to be doing was shooting scene after scene with cameras on tripods then multi-cam edit a video afterwards, so I could stand with another camera and shoot at the same time... Wrong. We were going hand held, and tripod was used on shoulder to steady the video and a bag of clothes hanging on the end for further weight... So apart for it being physical hard I didn't get a chance to shoot stills of our model (Vicky), but when instructor took a short break to eat and model and I didn't want anything to eat so we did a very short shoot. Next trip to Riga I'm hoping to shoot some more with Vicky. Video I haven't looked too much at as I need to get my new PC set up, old one is really old, ok for photoediting, but just doesn't cut it when it comes to video.

Here's one from a HS senior session last Saturday. The 10:00 AM sunlight provided some nice rim lighting behind this bush.

Again, kind of surprised to have flowers bloom so late into the season.
All the leaves fell off on the rose bush at home.
