Lighthouse lens, NAS Pensacola. D700 16mm f/2.8 AIS Fisheye Nikkor.
This would be a really cool place to ride out a hurricane. When the eye passes over, you could go out on the platform that surrounds the top of the lighthouse. The lighthouse was built in 1859 and I was told by the lighthouse keeper that this is the original Fresnel lens made in France. During the war of Northern Aggression (the Civil War to you folks up nawth), the south removed the lenses and buried them in the sand to deny the yankees the use of the lighthouse. It is the oldest lighthouse on the Gulf Coast. Before the advent of electricity, the light was provided by a large kerosene lamp. Nowadays only 1 halogen lamp about 4 inches long is used. It is also rumored to be haunted but I don't put any stock in any of that silliness.
Nikonsince1974 posted a great shot of the Fresnel lens. Here is my picture of the entire lighthouse. And as he said, the walk around the top is really nice. Picture taken in May of this year.

What can you do with a $9.00 model car from Costco and a puddle of water? I shoot lots of stuff just to see what it'll look like and never sees itself out of my computer. This one I really loved.

Tomorrow I will post an image I took of the stairs leading up to the lamp deck. All ONE HUNDRED AND SEVENTY SEVEN of them! It may not sound like a whole lot but they are kind of steep and when lugging a 40 pound camera bag along with you, it gets a little tiring for an out of shape old guy like me!
Wow, good one @NSXTypeR ... and I've never seen a real one. I'm amazed at the detail put into this little model. Might have to drop back into Costco and see what other exotics they might have.

Okay please do post your image and I will do the same. I also climbed the stairs only I left the bag in the car. When I was walking outside around the top platform I almost lost my hat...it was very windy.

Yesterday I posted an image of the Fresnel lens atop the lighthouse in Pensacola, FL. Below is an image of the winding stairs leading to the top. D700 24mm f/2.8 AIS
And here is my photo of the Pensacola Lighthouse stairs. A slightly different perspective than @Nikonsince1974 photo. Tomorrow will post a picture of the Fresnel lens. Two photographers with two different perspectives makes for an interesting posting. Nicely done Nikonsince1974. |D7100|17-55 @25mm|1/30 @ F2.8|Iso 3200|

This is one of my favorite images and this was one of my favorite modeling shoots but due to the potentially NSFW content, I am only going to provide link. D700 and 180mm f/2.8 AIS
Ever seen the inside of a lighthouse Fresnel lens and the small Halogen bulb? This is from the Pensacola Lighthouse, May 2014. |D7100|17-55|@17mm|1/60 @ F8|ISO 200|
