Regarding using the -1 as criticism: how are people going to learn and grow from the critique if all they know is that someone disliked it? It's not constructive at all. In the past when I received a -1 I was most curious about what it was about the image that made someone go out of their way to -1 it.

Luckie: I use 45acp, Kimber 1911 and 230 grain +P for carry and home defense precisely because statistics show one such shot stops the fight 97% of the time. Defensive firearms exist to stop violence, not start it, so the quicker you stop it the better. I was never a fan of 9mm. I also have shot 45acp into bottled water to recover a perfectly mushroomed bullet. However, I never used colored water. Nice job. When teaching people to shoot I often have them shoot into a coconut and a watermelon so they understand what an accident would to to their body. They are more cautious at the range after that!
The -1 issue: If it should not ever be used, it should be removed as an option. As long as it remains an option I wouldn't get all upset if someone uses it. Now watch, someone will -1 this post! LOL
Same session as the previous photo but trying something different. Used one of the three speed lights with orange gel on the black background. Didn't use a reflector for fill hence some shadow under chin. Again with the D810 and Sigma 50mm Art. I'm noticing how sharp the image is straight out of camera. I think I'm going to tweak sharpness and structure in camera.
Hells teeth there have been some great shots and processing recently! Well done all.
@Luckie: I found your argument eloquent and balanced. I think that maybe the -1 button could be used on a critique thread, but with the person doing it posting an explanation of why it was used. Recently I have seen some quite awful stuff posted on PAD which has improved beyond all recognition very quickly. Now that may not have happened if the poster was crushed by a -1.
No, IMHO my idea is best: Make those buttons like on Facebook so you can hover over them to see who did it. That would at least make users think harder about using it..
This tunnel used to be the main road..., the main road is just a meter outside the opening on the other side. I was out scouting for locations a bit today, but then the weather turned into near freezing and rain I headed back, but not before I got to check out this place. When it rains, which it often does here, I was thinking of just driving my car and here, unload gear and then exit. Could think of several ways to use this place for shoot both for models and clients.
I used Topaz Impression on this, turned the effect back to about 50%.

I was under the impression that using the negative feedback was not to be used... Lately when I've posted something I seem to get that more often than not. Is there one person I've offended or is really most of the work I post bad? (Not fishing for compliments, I just don't understand) Think it is so much easier to take negative and/or constructive feedback into consideration when one can see who one is talking with.
I think the negative feedback on PAD says more about the person posting than you Kenneth. I am willing to bet that their photostream looks like crap in comparison to yours. Personally I can't stand spineless wimps that critique anonymously.

Who ever breaks into my place has to deal with double odd buck from a pump action shot gun with a pistol grip. They will be going down.
But I would rather think about something happy, and this picture makes me do that:
@Calengor The PAD is not made for critique, just fun to put photo's on.
There are many other places if one will learn via there photo's. There is even a topic for on this forum. The + / - is a part of the software, that is all. Most put there photo's on the PAD via Flickr, there you can comment.
Those who say it can't be done, should not interrupt those doing it!
@Jimo, @srambler36, and @Ton, what is your secret to those awesome BIMs you've been posting lately? We have several Sea Eagles around Nuuk peninsular, but every time I try to catch them I fail miserably:)
I use a Monopod, D810, and my 80-400mm or my 500mm. Do you guys have some inside tips, or perhaps a website where it is sort of summarised?
@Killerbob For the eagles I cheat, I go to a bird show with a lot of sun, so I can use 1/1000 or more and can come close. We don't have them in Holland. They started to come here, 2 couples are spotted in the North of Holland last year (and around 1000 photographers by the nest, was big news). Oh, and Photoshop to make it a photo I like. For BIF I added 2 tips on my work flow from the top (@Coastalconn of course, one of his biggest fan here ) and I do BIF's for about 20 years now and build up a lot of patience.
A fan of Jimo and srambler36 too. Monopod does not work. One tip from Kristoffer that gave me a lot more hits: 21pt AF-C with AF-lock set to long. I use 9pt now, with the 70-200mm f/2.8 VR II.

Before last winter I had never taken more than a "snap" of the kids. The great BIF shots on PAD inspired me to give it a try...and now I am hooked. I have spent countless hours on this site and others reading as much as I can on the subject. My wife and kids think I have a problem. The wind chill was -18 this morning and most of the eagles have headed north, but I couldn't resist the urge to head down to the river. This photo was taken this morning just below a Corps of Engineers dam outlet on the Iowa River. The river is very narrow so the access is good.

A friend of mine made relaxing music and a text on this photo.

As one of your moderators, I see no use for negativity on this thread.
