Paragliding over the Tominé reservoir and town of Guatavita, Cundinamarca Department, Colombia.
I'd like to think I did a pretty good job of conveying the scale of this place. The reservoir and town are at approximately 2600m above sea level, and the photo was taken from approximately 3080m above sea level.
The first of a couple of shots I'd like to post of this big fellow (gal?? I never got close enough to be able to tell ). This is in Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming, USA in June, 2010. We got about 10 minutes of viewing and snapping pictures as he seemed uninterested for the most part, but at some point, he got a bit excited and ran in our direction and crossed the path about 50 yards ahead of us. THAT gave me a moment or two of doubt.
This was the earlier picture when he was just coming into view, and it became obvious that we had "Made contact" and things like running were probably not advised. The later shot that I like is a broadside while he was still not paying us any attention.
Two of my cousins folding up the paraglider after landing in the valley, again trying to convey a sense of the vastness of the place: D750 | Sigma 24-105mm f/4 | 24mm | f/4 | 1/125 sec | ISO 100
Just something for fun: shot in jpg today with a $145 refurbished 10mp Nikon 1 J1 (thanks for the notice NR) and a 30-110 Nikon 1 lens for $129 from buydig.com and cropped significantly. Birding with tiny outdated equipment just to see if it can be done.
