Anyone wanting to test gear this is a chance down my way.. It's a great show. I've haven't been in several years but I'll be near the area so I think I'll visit this year..
Dredden85, my wife and I will be in the Pensacola area the middle of May, headed to Destin for a Ft Walton Beach CHS class reunion. Once we get our airline reservations finalized, I'll send you a PM.

Well summer has come and is going. I really thought I would be able to save some more money, but unexpected expenses came up and I didn't get it. So...D7000. Thoughts on getting one at this point? I really had hoped to save for the D7100, but it just isn't going to happen. I want another body for a wedding I am co-shooting with a friend at the end of September. I also want some time to get familiar with what I am going to use (keeping the D5000 for a backup). It would be possible to rent a D7100, but I hate two things about that. Paying for something and not getting to keep it and only having it for a limited time beforehand.
i like my D7000 its not a bad camera.. If i wasn't spoilt by the D200/D300 class of cameras I would have loved mine. Its really not bad at all. have you considered getting the D7100 second hand ? may fit your budget that way. may be worth waiting for photokina?? when we can expect the D7200 thus more price drops for second hand gear.

I like my D7000 too. No complaints there- huge upgrade from the D40 I used before. I like having ISO 100 too. What sort of glass will you be using for it? Maybe invest in fast glass instead?
I have looked around at used, but I haven't seen any D7100's lately under $900 which is still going to be too much I think. I saw refurbished ones at around $850 a little while back, but they have gone back up. I saw a D7000 refurbished for $550 the other day and should have jumped on that, but they have gone back up again also.
@NSX see my signature...I have decent lenses. I don't feel like I need anymore lenses at this time.

Oh yeah, I know you have the 17-55 2.8, did you ever think about the 18-35 1.8?
I thought about getting it, but it depends on how dedicated Nikon is to DX for me.
The D7000 is okay, but it's not the best at high ISO compared to the current crop of cameras.
Why not consider one of the new 24MP D3300 or D5300? they seem good value .. I have had thoughts of getting a D3300 .. IQ would be a nice jump from your D5000.

It had crossed my mind. I know sensor wise it would be a big upgrade. I really was hoping foe the features upgrade of the d7xxx line. However the more I shoot recently the less I feel like I need it. I went through a phase thinking I need all kinds of off vamera flashes and stuff but I really don't. I have all modern lenses...I would miss the knobs and better autofocus I think.

OK, I have both the D7000 and D7100 and would summarise it like this: Feature set wise, the D7100 is better than the D7000 but not a huge amount. It is enough though that when I pick up my D7000, I scratch my head a bit. There are still some better points on the D7000, but overall the D7100 is better. If your photography is all very good light stuff, then the D7000 is very good BUT if you are doing a bit of low light/night photography, the D7100 is for you.
I used my D7000 as second body at an event last Saturday evening and the results were disappointing in comparison to the D7100 when PP-ing them.
Ok thanks guys. I am going to do more digging and see what it costs to rent a 7100 for the wedding. Kind of hate to do that but want something better in low light. I will wait on buying for a bit....makes me a little sad since I have been waiting for a while now.
Now I know why I bought all my lenses before we had a kid...would never happen now ;-)

If you are renting have you considered the D610 and the 24-70 f 2.8
Yup or just the D610 ... I still use my dx lenses (18-140, 18-200, 12-24) on my d610.

As she is from North Carolina, I will follow up.
She was one of the few on the forum that shot a D610. I hope all is well.

You could get it used to cut down on price.
