Some photo's from this morning with the 24-70mm f/2.8 on it.
Everything plain from the camera, no editing at all.

@egosbar upgrade the D7100 to D500 is a huge step forward. I'am only looking if I want to go back to DX, the D500 is € 2299.- here in Holland.

got my d7100 , 55-300,18-55 and 50mm 1.8D plus yongnuo 560111 flash and black rapid style strap and L tripod bracket for 950 australian , got nine watchers so far with 18 hours of auction left , if it sells ill be buying the
    d500 , 16-80 , 70-300 vr g , got a 105mm 2.8 nikon macro and 11-16 toking 2.8 so should have fun , ill get the 200-500 nikon next year

hope it sells , only couple of things i dont like is no flash , no easy iso and the memory banks suck but no deal breaker

As to no flash on the D500 you can look for a used SB400 on e-bay. It is small, light, easy to carry in a pocket and more powerful than a built in flash.

@egosbar, that is a very nice set. I have the 70-300mm VR 4.5-5.6 since my D70. It is a nice lens and it does better on the D500. Last saturday I tested it on the D500. I did some quick and dirty editing in LR. you can find some photo's here.

    http://adobe.ly/2enlaH8

Of course the 70-200mm f/2.8 VR is better, but heavy and expensive.
Oh, I only shoot in RAW format.

I never used a camera pop flash, flash right in the faces and they are vulnerable. I have yongnuo flashes, to put light everywhere I want. Some YN622N triggers and the YN622N-TX on the camera. There is now the YN685N with build in radio receiver.

The tip from @donaldejose is for me too I'am going to find one. Better then a pop-up, we can point it up.

Hope the photo's help a little.

@egosbar what do you mean with - no easy iso - ? You can automate iso in a lot of ways.

There was a discussion on the D500 flashlessness that you may be interested in checking out.. it has a slightly different focus but related... http://forum.nikonrumors.com/discussion/4904/nikon-no-pop-up-flash-discussion-solutions/p1

Old SB400 trick. The flash tube can be pointed up. Cut a business care in about half or one third (to taste) and stick it behind the tilt up flash tube to add a highlight to the eyes. Also the SB400 is strong enough for nice fill flash outdoors in sunlight.

apparently it doesnt have the easy iso function , its in the menu settings to use back scroll wheel for iso , i shoot aperture priority so i pick my f stop then check if my shutter speed is high enough for my lens focal length and what im shooting , if its to low i can quickly scroll iso up until the shutter speed changes to what i need the aperture stays the same , very quick and a pretty useful way to shoot im surprised they have taken the option out , i wonder if a firmware update might work in the furture

Anyone notice (stupid question) that the D500 just came down another couple of hundred dollars? It is getting very, very reasonable.

It's on sale. A bit surprising to see it there so soon, Nikon must be wanting to pump up the volume. Now's a great time to get one. Maybe I'll trade in my D7200 and get a spare >:)

I think it is time for me to call in my order. I've been waiting for the price drop about this much.

Could not miss this price drop. I expected the price drop starting on Black Friday, so we are a month early. Ironheart may be on the right track about pump up the volume.

Don't expect it to drop until Q2 next year.

Technically this is a two-day instant rebate, not a permanent price drop. It expires tomorrow, so you better act fast!

Battery issue: Just got my 2nd replacement EN-El15 (li-ion 20 vers) from B&H to replace some dead on arrival one's and this one was able to be charged to full, shot until about 30% - I recharged it over night and now it causes my camera's (D810 and D500) to shut down upon insertion. W or W/o battery grip, in grip or in body, alone or in pair w/ a good battery - it causes complete shutdown.

Charged w/ the Nikon charger, inserted and caused the shutdown issue. Checked the batteries w/ my Watson charger and it shows them at 100% - This is not good for me, worried it might not just be bad batch but more systemic - anyone else having said issues?

    Thanks in advance,

A couple of days ago I was at the largest camera dealer in Indiana and used the D500 for quite a while. Besides the fine ergonomics the button layout did not bother me and I liked the controls and focus system. Very interesting camera at a discount too.

Also picked up the Nikon brochure on the D500 and scanned it last night. Now it's got me thinking. That is a bad thing, Nikon Acquisition Disease is always costly. :)

I was reading the Consumer Reports 2017 book and there is was - the D500 was the #1 rated camera. Interesting.

The more I use the D500, the better I like it. I bought it for birds/sports/etc., but it's replaced my Fuji X100s as a daily carry camera much of the time. Paired with the 16-85 and either a 10-24 or 70-300VR, it fits in a small Billingham bag with spare battery and phone. The viewfinder feels like the D810 and I don't lose much DR. Great camera!

Thanks @pictureted for your comments. I thought the ergonomics were great. Size, button placement, grip..did I say grip - excellent fit for my hands. NAS is starting to nag me. Must stand firm.

Seriously, if I did not have the D750, the D7100 would be sold and the D500 would be in my tool box. Got to think about this more. :)

only think i miss is easy iso , i know the new button is close but i have a back scroll wheel doing nothing in aperture priority , why would they take this out to force us to use a button , i could assign something useful to the iso button if i had easy iso option , strange nikon
