The real flying as they say. This Tiger Moth is build in 1939. Restored, in new condition now, painted yellow and still flying on airshows.

Not sure if anyone here in particular photographed it, but this restoration turned out a lot better than the one that NOVA tried to restore.

The NOVA documentary one burned to the ground.

I spent 2 hours today at a very small air show and have lots of new B17 photos. But the real fun was paying $10 to climb into the plane and see the interior. Nice. Remembering that during WWII the average American was 5 ft 6 inches tall and probably around 145 to 150 pounds, my 190 frame worked to get through the plane.

By Sunday I should have photos to post.

I paid the fee for the access to the interior of the B17. They had ammo in the webs feeding the 50 caliper guns and fake bombs in the bomb bay and of course I got the cockpit.

Glad you mentioned the interior....that is just as interesting as the exterior.

Not really aviation photography, more like aviation videography.

I don't know much about planes to know what they're talking about in the start up procedure, but it was still cool as heck to watch.

NSXTypeR - thanks for sharing the video. The B29 is a great plane. My Dad loved this plan, it was a tough bird. I say that but also note he bailed out of the front end of one during WWII over Berlin. Seeing the inside is fun, done that once before, but have not had the opportunity to fly in one.

3 years ago they had B-29, B-17 and B-24 before the weekend of the EAA show in Oshkosh. Thanks for sharing.

No problem. I never thought about the logistics of moving people around inside of the plane between the observer positions and the tail gunner. It's making my inner 5 year old imagination run wild, exploring those places.

@NSXTypeR I second Photobug's sentiment. Loved the video. At one point I was comfortable enough to take up flying. It eventually became too expensive, but I love immersing myself in the lingo and the procedure of it. I love aircraft for the magnificent machines they are. The machineness of them draws me to the radial powered transports and bombers of the 40s and 50s. They are among my favorites.

And my teaser, the inside of a B-17. Lots more of these to follow. Note the addition of wood on the interior to help passengers. This B-17 goes to many events and provides rides at $450 each. They also give tours of the inside, $10.

This photo is where the Radio-Bombardier lives during a bomb run. In a future shot you will see his inside radio work station.

@Photobug The times I've been in any of that vintage bombers I've always been struck by how confined the spaces are. Television and movies don't do a very good job of getting that across. They were designed to deliver a payload, not provide comfort for the occupants. I toured the insides of a B-29, and a B-52 and shoehorned myself into the cockpits of an F-4 (Phantom) and an SR-71 when we lived in Riverside, CA back in the 90's.

They were not built with 6-6 crew members in mind.

The trip thru the B-17 was tight in several spots. Going across that platform in the Bombay was narrow but that crawl to the tail - that was not built for today's average male. On the tour they said the average American was 5'-6" and less than 150 lbs.

I totally know what your saying about the interior of the planes. The guy in front of me was 6-8" and he never stood up the entire time. It's terrific that these planes are in museums and fly in shows so you can see the interior and take a flight.
