I was generalising PitchBlack, It's very easy to let the Red Mist take over when you are facing a computer screen. especially at night when people have a glass of wine or two.Confrontation always comes second to congenial communication.

Well I had an unfortunate accident with my 14-24 2.8 while setting up for a shot. Needless to say, I was very ecstatic when I found out Nikon had a service center in Budapest, the city that I'm visiting. A quick email on Sunday and things got going. Got a response the next day and off I went. Stopped by the service center and they said it would take 2-3 days to fix. Give the power of the US dollar here in Hungary, the cost of the hood replacement is a bit over $100. Very pleased with repair cost, given that the hood alone is about $75 in some places I found.

While visiting the service center, I also had my sensor and mirrors cleaned for myself and my traveling buddy. $15 for each. :D The staff was very professional and I was very happy that Nikon was able to address my needs so efficiently.

(This is what happens when you forget to tighten down a ballhead....arrrr)

At Least the hood protected the front Glass, now that would have been expensive.

Interesting that a certain blogger who we all love to bash advocates leaving your lens hood in the box. For this reason alone I never shoot without one.

+1 AMEN.I always shoot with the lens hood on, it keeps people from bumping into the front of my lens and keeps my fat fingers from slipping onto the UV filter.

I would not have liked to have paid for replacement of that front glass. @Golf007sd-no damage to the zoom mechanism or manual focus mechanism?

Is this Jared Polin? I've stopped watching many Youtubers except for review purposes.

You really can't remove the hood on a 14-24 unless you decide to saw it off.

I've bumped things occasionally on the 18-135, it's probably saved my rear end many times.

I've had good experiences with Nikon repair in Hong Kong. It wasn't really a Nikon repair, it was a sensor cleaning for a D40. Unfortunately, days after they cleaned it the camera started throwing error signals. I can't really say that I can fault them for it, it had done 27,000 shots or so by that time.

I'm not sure why Nikon USA doesn't do walk ins.

I wanted to send out kudos to Nikon USA. I had a water damage (long and sad story, don't ask). Nikon replaced most electronics incl. mainboard, some knobs, the xqd card slot, the rubber grip, all card contacts, the aperture control, the display behind the battery pack, the battery contacts, adjusted the AF, cleaned the sensor after the repair. The whole show set me back USD520 plus shipping and took from shipping day to back at my door step 10 days. Camera is like new again. Excellent job, Nikon USA!

I just got my D750 back from NIKON USA today. I am very pleased they fixed the flare issue at no charge and the exterior of the camera looks brand new. Plus they only took 28 photos to check their work.

Turn around time was 13 days. Excellent job, Nikon USA.

Well I can tell you this, you guys all got off cheep. I myself had my share of Nikon USA service. My D4 & 200/f2 has an unfortunate drop for my lack to care. Hard to say the feeling when two of you greatest assets hit a concert floor from 4 1/2 feet hight. Never the less, I took it to nikon and for about $1000 they fixed everything as if just came of the assembly line. Took about 8 days for all work to be completed from the time I took it to them personally.

Ee-ouch sorry to hear that. Well, I guess considering the cost of all that gear you did get off cheap Ali.

Ali, shoot the D4 for a month then post it on eBay and upgrade the body. LoL Even though the 6 month warranty is not transferable, I have sold both a lens & a body and gave the buyer the warranty. If he runs into a problem, would send it back in my name to be fix free. Keep that 200 F2...its too good a glass to sell. :P

If I did not have the D3 or an older model maybe that would be a wise path. As it is, the D4 does everything I need it to do. But, I got my eye on the D5 or whatever it turns out to be.

I used Focal Pro to fine tune my lenses and found the corrections needed were 16-35:-3, 50:-8 and 70-200:-7.
Following the suggestion on this forum I thought sending my gear to Nikon for calibration was a great idea.
After the calibration from the Nikon service at Athens, Greece I used Focal Pro again expecting that my lenses no more would need fine tune correction but the outcome is 16-35:-6, 50:+6, 70-200:-6.
So it seems that the situation after service calibration is worse, than it was with factory calibration.
Judging with my eyes the focus is more accurate with the Focal Pro AFFT settings rather than without them.

What focal length are you testing at on the zooms?

I've done the tests for the extremes and the middle focal lengths of the zooms ie 16, 24 and 35 for the 16-35 and 70, 135 and 200 for the 70-200. The results do not differ a lot but I kept those for 24mm and 200mm respectively, because these are that I use the most.

On March 14th I used the D750 return shipment to send in the D750, MB-D16 (with some play and wobble) and the 300/4E PF. The "repair status tracker" at Nikonrepair.net remained all time on "camera received", so this is another useless approach of Nikon to contribute to the internet.

Now I got a phone call. Camera and grip are ready for shipping back and were already ready a couple of days ago. But they wait for the firmware for the lens and asked if they should ship the lens back and ring me when the firmware is available? Now, what good is a lens to use if I know the pictures won't be perfect or at least as good as I can do them?

I'm NPS member. Somehow I thought I'd get a spare lens without even asking for it - is it my fault that QC was in wintersleep?

My D7000's ON / OFF switch is not functioning properly. I went to Nikon service center in Chennai, India. They said the underlying part of the switch is corroded by salt, probably due to sea water (spray). I usually take lot of sea photos and I was surprised that the weather sealing on D7000 is not that effective.

My camera was with them for 3 weeks and they said the part needs to be procured from Nikon Japan and it is still not arrived. I got annoyed and brought my camera back. The service center guys said they will call me once the part arrive. Keeping fingers crossed.

Since its not in warranty I paid Rs: 2200 INR for inspection charges etc. Once the part is available I have to pay Rs: 600 INR to replace.

The water resistant seals only slow the ingress of water, not completely prevents this. Nikon even states this in the user manual of all cameras (which is why water damage is not covered by the warranty).
If I take a good photo it's not my camera's fault.

I sent my two cameras and two lens in the same box. I created an auto generated ticket via their website for the D810 service advisory which in turn creates an auto generated ups shipping label. I thought I would get an email by default with the shipping label info especially since I have an account with them.

I handed the box to UPS without getting the tracking info. Today I got word that they have received the items on the camera. I'm still waiting for the email of the two lens.

I can breath easily that It did not get lost on its way there. I hope their 7-10 day turn around time comes thru as I have many events lined up by end of the month.
