2018 Notre Dame left alcove view reprocessed

at Notre Dame de Paris 2018. this was located in an alcove to the left of the church entrance. AI noise reduction and sharpening

I remember being there. It was quite dark inside. Didn't think there was enough light for photos. You did well.

My dog last evening shot with a D300 at ISO 3200. DX0mark says top ISO to shoot at without disturbing visible noise is ISO 679, Shot RAW and processed in Nikon NX Studio with its default noise reduction. Photo seems fine to me. Sure at 100% you can see noise, but viewed full screen on a computer monitor you don't see it. Fine for social media in my opinion without noise reduction.

Still sorting out health issues, but while stuck inside I’ve managed to photograph my pets in a number of different lighting conditions. Some require ISOs in excess of 12,800. I’m really surprised at the quality.

There are two interesting things about this photo. 1. It was taken at noon "when conventional photographic wisdom is that you should put your camera away because you cannot take good photos in mid-day light." and 2. It is a macro shot sharp enough to see the veins on the bee's wings and the hairs on its body but was taken with the 24-120 f4 lens at f4 which is not a macro lens and those are not macro settings. In my opinion that 24-120 is a very versatile lens. Click through to flckr to better evaluate for yourself.

Never underestimate the capabilities of that lens. I by no means claim universal knowledge of things Nikon, but that lens is freakishly good.

Yes, if I was backpacking and weight considerations forced me to take just one body and one lens II would choose Z8 body and the 24-120 f4 lens. Or if I was so old I could only take one body and one lens on a short day hike I would choose the same combination. If you shoot Nikon and don't have this lens I recommend getting it.

Whitetail doe showing the alarm. Photographed from 50 yards away at 11:30 am today with the 20 year old Nikon D2x body and the 200-500 f5.6 zoom lens at 410mm which is 615mm equivalent because the D2x sensor is DX size. 100 ISO and 1/200th shutter speed off a tripod. Processed and upscaled in NX Studio. It is amazing to me what can be done with a 20 year old sensor, a modern lens and modern processing software. I would not have thought it was possible. This was taken with the DX 12 mp sensor in the D2x and processed through NX Studio which can upscale images. 12 mp from a DX sensor turned into a 31.6mp image from a DX sensor. Shot this morning. It is not yet fall here but for some unknown reason these few leaves have already changed to fall colors. Click on the image to go to flckr and examine the result in full size. I am amazed at what is possible with a 20 year old sensor.

@donaldejose I didn't realize NX Studio can upsample. Where is that option?

mhedges In NX Studio click on top left menu item which is File. On the drop down menu click on Export. A dialogue box appears which gives you many choices as to how and where the file will be exported. You can export it in its native resolution or you can export it with the longest edge converted to 8256 pixels. Look at my last two posts for examples of the upscaling. The fall leaves are upscaled from 12mp D2x DX sensor to 8256 x 6838 pixels which is 56 megapixels! Image an old D2x producing images with more megapixels than a Z8. The deer photo I posted was also converted from a 12mp DX D2x sensor into an 8256 x 7354 = 60.7 megapixel image. Click on my last two images to get to flckr and then study the upscaled images in their larger sizes (click on the downward arrow at the bottom right and when the choice box pops up click on View all sizes). Now you will have all the different sizes on the top of the page and you can study the image at various pixel resolutions, even at how a 4k or 8k large screen TV would show it. Click on the original choice (on top of the size options) to view the image 100%. See if you can detect the added fake pixels? I cannot. Pick up your oldest, smallest sensor Nikon body, take some shots and process the files in NX Studio to your liking and then export them as is and also upscaled. It is so easy to produce this files as large as the latest and greatest Nikon bodies.

Thanks. I use that feature all the time to downsample; never considered using it to upsample.
