@Squamishphoto Love your portraits. I'm thinking that if you push the temp slider up (warmer) you'll see it comes close to PitchBlacks processing. @Luckie Nice catch on the fireworks. But then again, all the photos on PAD are great!
@SquamishPhoto: what kind of post processing do you usually do?
Not a whole lot, mostly just dealing with blemishes and then Ill tweak things to bring out colours, tones, saturation, etc. But this last series was pretty limited for light since I still haven't shelled out for a few portable softboxes for my flashes. I've been busy building up my studio gear and environment, so I often "make due" with a basic reflector disc for outdoor shots and without an assistant to hold it well for me I often walk away with well framed shots with less than perfect light on the face, and in PS I find that my latitude for slider adjustability is hindered as a result of poor exposure. However, judging from your work Im imagining that you might have some suggestions that might be of use, so please don't hesitate to offer any ideas. :]
Hey folks, I'm switching to a different flickr account to more easily tie that into my hiking, and once I'm finished hiking to tie it more easily to the writing I plan to resume on a blog that isn't trailjournals. This also lets me leave everything in place on my old account for old time's sake, while making a new more public / professionalish account that doesn't have anything older than the beginning of my hike.
Anyways, while I slowly start uploading everything from March 2nd up to the present, here's a shot from Blood Mountain Shelter on March 4th. Candid of thru-hiker Zippadee Chickadee checking the shelter register.

Your portraits are really good. I thought that they would gain if you would push some light into the ladies faces. Maybe with A full cto since the backgrounds are usually green-ish or cold-ish (as contrast).
@SquamishPhoto, on the rare occasion that I have a planned portrait session I also work alone and usually bring the kitchen sink. Probably look pretty funny from a distance. I don't own a reflector so I usually try to work with flashguns to minimize shadows. Wind and umbrellas don't mix...but I managed to get a few shots here before I had to rescue the umbrella from a dip. @Benji, full CTO would probably be too orange...but that's with my limited knowledge and experience.

Hi all, had great weather this last week so decided to head out after dark to try my hands on astrophotography. Looking forward to learning from my fellow photographers here

I really enjoy a lot of photos in this thread, especially the portraits and the July 4th fireworks!
I also see a lot of new members, welcome all!
Here's a shot I took with the D40, a couple days before it broke down. Strange to see such a patriotic bike in Hong Kong.
