My wife would die for one of those and she is not into photography (well as much as I am anyway). She loves Hello Kitty.
I am going to wait and see the true difference in the AF system. If it had the D800 AF system I would have probably hit preorder but I can see that it would hurt D4 sales if that happened, just too close (just my opinion here). I don't think the AF system of the D700 or D600 is bad but if I was given the opportunity to take pictures in low light that had some action I might not like the outcome.
I have been to Guam and a few other places that have for lack of a better term, "tribal shows". From what I usually saw during this dance/show they had some action and the lighting wasn't exactly great for photography. My D700 was normally around ISO 4000, little bit too much grain but if not everything was on the blurry side, I was using a 50mm 1.4 so fast glass should not be an issue (flash photography was not allowed).
I would much rather had the Df in this situation for its ISO abilities but the D4 probably would be the better choice due to the AF system. Of course I had a hard enough time packing my D700 much less a D4 so the Df with the D800 AF system would have been my best bet but not happening.
Thanks.....Really enjoyed the video. Um, too bad you couldn't shoot the video on your DF ;-)
Nikon D7100; AF-S DX 35mm f1.8; AF-S DX Macro 40mm f2.8; AF-S DX 18-200mm VRII; SB-700 Speed Light and a bunch of other not very noteworthy stuff......
VERRRYY well done Nick, I am impressed. I had my wife watch your video for posing tips.
As an aside, I see that both of us live in Vancouver (I live next to English Bay and Stanley Park). Are we not truly blessed to live in such a photorich environment??
These are unedited except for sizing. Sadly, I couldn't used the Df much this evening because I had my short lens in it and they made me move after a couple of shots. The Df performed almost exactly as my D800 with the long lens in it. The Df is a beast and these pictures will obviously edit nicely.
Got my mitts on a DF today... Not as impressed in use as I was at the overall design. I may still just go for one. It does seem like nikon lowered the bar on ALL of their bodies.
Nice pics bland. Good detail too, you can even see the hairs on the arm.

It bothers me to say this because the camera performs so will but when I spend $3,000 for a camera I don't want the battery/sd card cover falling off and it did today when I was removing the battery to charge.
@bland - Thanks for the photos! I can't believe the lack of noise @6400 with all the black, blue and violet tones! That is just nuts. That crowd looks excited! lol
LOL That's why I refer to these types of concerts as the "Geritol Tonic Tour".
The Df was a tab better than my D800 last night but the file size of the Df was less than the D800, so that's the trade off. Both shot well in the harsh conditions.
Since there wasn't any noticeable noise this time at ISO 6400, I'll bump the Df up to ISO 8000 at the next concert there next month.
I wish I had unlimited resources. I think that I would really enjoy the DF with the manual controls shooting my 50mm 1.2 MF. Perhaps a re-furbished one in a couple of years. That would not bother me as my main camera, the D800, was purchased new.
But if Nikon would do a Leica (Neica) form factor with inter-changeable lens (say a nice fast 14mm, 24mm, 50mm and 85mm) and auto-focus, I would be all over that. (Or even a 17mm, 35mm, 58mm and 85mm). With the short flange to focal point distance, it would be the best wide angle solution on the market, except maybe for Leica.

Nikon, are you listening?????
I guess your best option now is a Sony A7 with adapters, or get a Fuji with the Metabones adapter.
A7r as camera-of-the-year is a bit of a joke IMO. Good luck trying to hit a moving target with slow AF and 2 fps. I'm sure it's a solid camera and I guess the adapters won't make one stick with Sony's skimpy lens line, but Anything-of-the-Year is a massive, massive stretch.
The A7 is, IMO, more useful than the A7r, never mind anything that came out from the other mirrorless companies or Pentax.
Yesterday I saw that Sony A7r got the camera of the year from Popular Photography. The D7100 was note even mentioned as finalist.
Actually, the D7100 was honored in the Top 10 Products in the December Issue (available now on newstands)

Check out Nick's website on the Df.

I will need to have a long shower if I buy Sony. I will suffer through my Coolpix A..........
However, Fuji could entice me. I hope that company figures out how to prosper.
