Hey, all! I'm a gunsmith. And I've deeply enjoyed photography for almost 45 years... mostly because of the lack of recoil. And even with a D5 on full auto there's no need for a silencer.

Hi @MegapixelSchnitzel, welcome to NR. I think we have a few gun nuts on here, including me. :p Look forward to seeing your images on PAD.
    Always learning.

Outstanding! Can we private message on this forum, Spraynpray? Gun talk probably has no place in a photography forum!

Some of us consider a big gun a 400mm f/2.8.....Welcome to NRF, MegapixelSchnitzel

We can indeed PM @MegapixelSchnitzel. If you click on your name, then inbox, you can start a new message. The user name should auto-complete. Note this is different to posting on a persons wall (which I never do).
    Always learning.

I do, too, Ms Moto. In fact, that much glass and price tag qualifies as outright artillery. I'm more of a small arms guy - a 300 f/2.8 is my max. As a rule, I never carry anything more than a 24-70 or maybe a 105 these days (unless I really need it and have a certain nephew along who's acting as lens-bearer and pack mule).

    Hello, from Central Florida
After admiring and looking at Nikon for many years, I finally took the leap into the Nikon world of digital photography and purchased a D7200 with the 18 to140mm kit lens. Being an amateur enthusiast for years and working in the corporate world, I never really had the time to grow beyond being an average amateur toting a camera. So here I am retired with time to learn more than basic photography. So why am I here, well I strongly believe you can teach old dogs new tricks. Hence I believe I can learn much from this Forum to help me grow and improve my own photography, hell if nothing else just help me master the technology I now hold in my hand. I look forward to being a part of this forum.

    Best Regards,
    GandyDancer

Welcome aboard @GandyDancer be sure to post up on PAD (Photo A Day) and ask any questions you may have. I also have a D7200 (amongst others in the fleet); great camera, plenty of room to grow. I know photography from the old film days, but I still learn something new every day.

    Thanks Ironheart and Photobug
I have a Cannon A-1 from film days motor drive and several lenses and then in 2002 went to a Sony CyberShot Digital to see if I would like the new digital format photography. The D7200 is a whole new world and has introduced me to big time photography along with Lightroom and Photoshop, which I am new to all three so I have a steep learning curve to say the least. Again thanks for your comments and I am looking forward to my new journey.

Welcome, Jake. The D500 is a super upgrade IMO, and we hope you share some of your work on our Photo-A-Day page...

Amyn, welcome to the forum. We have quite a few professionals as well as amateur/enthusiasts. Saw your postings on Photo-A-Day, keep 'em coming! I've been shooting Nikon for 30++ myself. Started with a borrowed FTn,

Hello all! I am wedding and portrait photographer from Brussels. Shoot with d800, d300. Started photography in film era and in love with modern photo editing possibilities. Happy to look at my clients faces when they see the enhanced reality.
But documentary - it is saint! Capture the moment and share the real.

    Hello.

Retired mostly, from decades as a staff photographer.
This left me with a pile of ancient Nikkors sitting idle,
and a number of near-worthless flagship film bodies.

Have some Canon EF lenses, and Minolta Maxxum AF
    lenses on hand as well.

So I've made modest purchases to put digital bodies
behind these old fancy "paperweights", and now I'm
occasionally working, sometimes noodling along at
personal ideas, depending on demand for my work
and on my moods and inspiration.

Welcome, Golem... I happen to have some Nikkors from the 60's, they are exceptionally sharp and do well on any of my current bodies. Glad to have you on the forum....

Hello, I am Scott from McKenna Washington. My kids are grown so I decided to try photography again. I have been using a D7200, plan on getting a D500 in the next week or so. I used Olympus cameras in my film days. I have also used Canon but prefer Nikon now.

Welcome Scotts54. Check out Photo A Day and upload one a day so we can see your work.

  • New to the forum, been lurking for a while ....

First camera was a SRT-201 that I saved odd-job money to buy, about wore it out though college and then work / wife / kids intervened and really didn't shoot much until about 15 years ago when I bought myself an N80 which I shot with until my wife bought me the D50 I shoot with today (not for long hopefully)
