    Hello All!!
Jim here from So. Cal. Have been into photography since the mid 80s or so. Have recently over the last several years begun to take on paid assignments, mostly portraits, horse shows and the like. Have visited this site often for the rumors, and looking forward to contributing on this forum.

Serious amateur since 1972. Kodak rangefinder - Mamiya Sekor 500DTL - Nikon FM - FM2 - F3 - N90s - D700 - D3. I had a B&W darkroom through the 70s. Always loved Tri-X, especially since I could control the process from click to print. I gave my FM2 to my sister and N90s to my daughter, stagnated photography-wise then saw the D700 and I'm back to loving photography again. I still had some AIS lenses and the fact I could use them on the D700 as 35mm was unreal. I recently bought a used D3 to experience a "pro" body. I love that too. Now I am seriously thinking about a D500, getting to handle it on Thursday, Feb 18.

Welcome Danno! You certainly started with an excellent camera and the move to D7200 was a great move! One of our video just aired on U Tube: it is called Black Sky Films 2016 Ice Palace video....
Check that out and MAKE certain you try your D7200 out on some scenes as the video on YOUR D7200 is pretty amazing. Don't just shoot stills. Love to see some of your results. As to retiring......I think you will find you become as busy as you ever were! Last comment.... I have been VERY impressed with Nikon Rumors! This site has it right!
    Good Luck,

I was very interested to read Flip's post! Having really gotten into large and medium format I am always interested in others who did that. I had everything from 8X10, 4X5, 2.5x 7, only miss the panoramically especially the Fuji GX 617 and all the lens panels for it. Wonder what you think of your D800 comparatively? Despite my much higher number of published and very large prints from that era, I'll take a D7200 every time.

    Hello fellow Nikon fetishistas!

I got a F100 that my papas brother gave me when I was a teenager and a bunch of old lenses with not even autofocus. My papa shoots fashion on Phase One so he is useless like on another planet. It is time to go digital and my coolpixes are crap. So now I am signing up! Help!

    Hello from Michigan,
My name is Theresa. I've been a NRF lurker and decided it was time to join. You've given me much insight for my purchases over the years and a few laughs in between (everyone has an opinion). My uncle bought me my first Nikon Film SLR when I was 16. I shoot sports and events with both DX and FX formats and love telling the story through pictures...

Hello, I live in New Zealand and just discovered NRF while looking for comparisons between FX and DX sensors. Bought a D3300 a while ago and it does a fantastic job! I've been taking photographs all my life going back to an early Olympus OM-1 followed by a procession of 35 mm film cameras and I bought one of the first digitals, a Kodak with a 1 megapixel image sensor. Cost about as much as a used car.
Been using various digitals ever since although I still have a Minolta X-300 with a 28 -200 zoom. Film is making a comeback, I might take it out of the cupboard one day. But the D3300 is an excellent camera, especially if you can find your way through the menus......

Welcome harlequin2. Do some searches here for the D3300 and you will find lots of good stuff. It's a great camera and as your skills advance you can move into other modes to master that fine DSLR.

    Hello from the UK

I'm a long time Nikon user, starting with a D80, then a D2Xs, D300, D3 and my present brace of D3s and D750 and a whole host of lenses. My main interests used to be nature but these days I've branched out to cover street photography and anything else that comes to hand.

Hi! I'm Lupe, from Argentina. Some of you may know me indirectly because of another member's posts about me. But let's not get into that.
I don't know how active I might be in the forum but I might drop by every once in a while.
Still figuring out why I can't post my profile pic and set my signature, any tips are appreciated.
My website is www.lupejelena.com and if you know any spanish I also make youtube tutorials. Been thinking about shooting new videos in english but can't gather up the courage to do it.

Alderes is my avatar because I am doing genealogy also and Aggo Alderes is one of my ancestors. Back in the 12th century he participated in the negotiations of the my east-frisian home town Norden with Bremen to clarify trading rules of the so-called Hanse who's route did pass that area. I am born in the mid fifties and work as an ITIL specialist for a huge trans-European company.

Photography was already a hobby of my father and I still own his original Agfa camera. I myself started with used SLRs back in the early seventies and bought myself a Nikon F301 when my first daughter was born. When the D800 came up my wife bought a used D70s from a colleague of mine and gave it to me as a birthday present. After two years of flooding all my HD drives with digital images I wanted another new camera and bought the D90, just to find out how good prime lenses are and that tolerances in bodies and lenses can add up and frustrate you. Thus I did buy a used D300 for the sake of its AF fine tuning capability - just to find out how amazing semi-professional bodies actually are. The next step was unavoidable and I couldn't resist a D700 being offered on the internet.

Meanwhile I was reading all the amazing things modern cameras can do, be it the D7x00 series, the D6x0 series and now the D750. To get a feeling of non-AA-filtering, high resolution and dynamics I did buy a fairly cheap used D3300, just to put me in even deeper trouble. Enjoying to use the D300/D700 as a real robust tool you struggle with the tiny, platic-ish and filigree bodies like the D750 with its flipping display. I was wondering what Nikon could bring up next and whether it would be a "true" successor to the D700 similar to the D500 which - in my believe - is the true successor to the D300. The D7x00 - to me - is "Something" between the D90 and the D500, which implies that the D750 is "Something" between the D700 and - well I don't know. We will see.

The other thing is, that I start to struggle about the question of what photography actually is nowadays. What does it take for a photograph to make you say "Wow!". In the early days you could impress with your personal skills applied under extreme conditions. Nowadays with endless dynamic ranges, where you don't need flashes anymore as with the D500, with autofocus you can trust even in darkest rooms - why to bother looking through the viewfinder anyway - and with 6 pps, you can simply walk around and keep your finger on the trigger while waving around your camera. Good shots have become inflationary. Well, it's actually not that bad, but it made me think. Hopefully I can get some inspiration on this forum.
