I really wanted to go to Colorado but situations arose and made it impossible.

I'm going to try and make it to the next one. I'd have gone to the last one but cold weather isn't my cup of tea.

If there's any Billy Bob's out there I can setup a Redneck venue. Not to interfere with what is being planned but at another time (fall) for those of you who might wish to enter the Twilight Zone of an Earnest T Bass throwdown.

We have a wildlife preserve that is full of Buffalo, Elk, Exotic Deer that are free roaming and you can get really close to them, plus Water Buffalo and etc that have a fence protecting you from harms ways. Also a museum that is incredible, you can Google "Woolaroc" to find out more. The Tall Grass Prairie is also near Woolaroc where you can photograph Wild Buffalo in their beautiful habitat.

Then there's motorsports, we have road racing, drag racing, boat drags, mud bog racing, every type of Billy Bob format you can think of. I can get you setup there as well to shoot close and get incredible pictures. We'll have to find a date where we can the most racing at that time.

Once evening comes we have the Tulsa Hard Rock Casino and Resort to relax and donate your money to my tribe via slot machines and poker tables. There's many hotels around the Hard Rock so lodging can be affordable.

Anyways, 2 people or 10 people we can get'er done and who knows, maybe a tornado will show up! :)

It might be a good idea to set up a one day event in NYC. We could come in late morning (1 drive from VT/MA), shoot the regular suspects in NYC, get some night cityscapes, sleep some and go back home the next morning.

The BH's or the OB's would be great places. I want to throw out one far out idea, Alaska, a 7 day inside passage with a day in Glacier Bay. I've taken this before and prices start including food under $700 for a week.

Bland, I live 45 minutes away from Woolaroc, and 1.5 hours from Tulsa. If you get something going, I would be interested.

You bet or maybe us locals can just meet up there sometime. The new buffalo calves will be out over Memorial Weekend, good time for all of us to meetup!

On the idea of local get togethers….. I have now altered how will be traveling this year (Sold motorhome) and will be pulling an Airstream trailer. This allows me to move freely on the back roads around the US without worrying about weight restrictions. The possible venues for my "camping tour" are the Black Hills & Badlands of South Dakota, Gillette, Wyoming, The Woodlands, north of Houston, Texas and a few acres a mile north of El Moro, Colorado. Also, Glacier National Park, Triple D Ranch/Kalispell, Montana, Boise, Idaho, Lennox, South Dakota, Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin. A very high item on my list is Historic Route 66, which I drove in a VW back in 1965.

Thus, I will be sharing here on NRF what my schedule is when I am "camped out" and anyone who wants to get up and tell lies about photography can meet me….LOL.

And, Route 66 runs through Oklahoma for sure!

Holly smoke. What a vacation. Let me know when you will be in Elkhart Lake, we have not been there in 40 years. The wife and I will make the trip to meet you there. Also, go Goggle Devil's Lake, just outside Baraboo, south of the Wisconsin Dells. That is 45 minutes from where we live and a great place for photography and hiking.

Will start reading this thread now. Been mostly in the woods remaining on the Appalachian trail, but I am close to getting a job or else running out of funds altogether. If I am employed with money available when this rolls around, I'd love to be along. I would lend hiking / backpacking experience for any more rugged photo shoots... heck, buy me a meal and point me up a mountain and I'll make a fine sherpa for somebody. :P

This is actually a very nice thought, the sherpa part, for some of us who are chronologically more mature. I might even be able to hike a mile with someone carrying the 30 lbs of camera gear.

And, maybe this brings up the Finger Lakes Region of New York again….who knows, or maybe some mountainous venue in West Virginia….mmmmmm?

A couple notes on places mentioned after I have skimmed the thread...

Iceland is a wonderful place, and I would certainly travel there again. An off-season car rental is not expensive, and that seems best for keeping a group together and that would also split the cost further. Hitchhiking in Iceland is easy when there is any traffic at all. I have also done couchsurfing in this country and have a few contacts there. It is a place I want to visit again, to further explore sites I have merely skimmed in the past. I could show people a few spots that are off the beaten path. Once away from Reykjavik in the off-season it can be a trick to find places to stay or eat in the small towns, but there are dramatic scenes in the lonely places.

The Finger Lakes region is a place I haven't visited in a while, but my parents recently bought a summer house near Hammonton and I could try convincing them to let us use this as a base of operations, maybe for a small donation or gift toward them. There is the Finger Lakes Trail of course, and this trail is the terminus of the 1800-mile Great Eastern Trail. The latter is a brand new trail, with its first thru-hikers in 2013, and I would love to raise awareness of this footpath.

Well, for me, I am not a city person, so Glacier, Jackson hole and the Badlands and Black Hills sound good. Jackson hole is good for shopping, particularly art, but tends to be expensive, Maybe we trade our outstanding photos for art. :Late september is good for color there, along with more wildlife, but possibility of snow. Glacier is fine and scenic, just 2 hours from my home. Badlands and Black Hills promise neat landscapes.

+1 for Black Hills, Badlands, and Grand Tetons (Jackson area). Right after September 1st is a great time because the families have gone home to get their kids back in school. Color change has not started but the weather is much warmer than late September. And not sure but believe the room rates drop after 9/1.

    Hi all,

I will be having dinner with the one of the daughters of the Triple D folks tonight and will see the other daughter (who works part-time at the Ranch) this weekend and check their Summer schedule for the Ranch here in Kalispell, Montana.

I have no idea what the cost might be, but will find out and post if and when available.

Summer season is a fairly high cost vacation season for tourism, and hotel availability is somewhat more expensive, too. Waiting until after Labor Day will open up some room availability, but not much for cost.

Some of the Glacier National Park concessions will close in mid-September. MacDonald Lodge generally closes soon after Labor Day.

As I mentioned before, one of the advantages of here is the vast expanses to photograph, but that is also a disadvantage when it comes to getting from point A to B.

    My best,

    Mike

    Thanks, Mike,

I will possibly be getting to the Montana/Idaho area this fall dependent on a lot of variables. My Airstream trailer should be delivered in mid June, and once this is in my hands, I will begin my travel plans. So, if I get to Kalispell, and Triple D, we can have a "get together" for anyone who wants to attend.

In any case, Spring 2015 i will no doubt get out there and for certain do a stint at Triple D along with several days around Glacier. Again, wherever I go, folks from the forum are welcome to gather and we can have a good time.

    And, my best to you,

    Tommie

Golf & Msmoto. Wife and I met member Dresden85 today. Had a great time shooting together at two sites. We plan to upload them to PAD soon. We won't return home until next week so give me time. Got pictures to tablet but forgot flicker password.

Matt was a great host and we Had a great time. Shooting and exchanging tips made my day. We encourage others to get together and do the same.

@golf007sd , @MsMoto , @Photobug -I met Mr. and Mrs. Photobug today. I am glad they could take time in their vacation to have an afternoon of sight seeing. We went over to the Light House on the Naval Air Station Pensacola and over to Big Lagoon State Park.
We had a great time speaking and discussing Nikon gear and technique. I look forward to their next visit and any other NR members.

Great guys… maybe we will see more NRF folks gathering informally…

While this may be a bit off the wall, a photo op is coming up which will be one of the finest collections of diesel train engines in many folks lifetimes. It will occur in Spencer, North Carolina and will be four days long. Maybe those who are NRF members and like trains can come to this event and we can have coffee or something together.

Well, if there is something going on in Glacier--we tried last year but didn't work out--from end of August on t sept 9, I am on. I haven't much time this year to practice my photography so a get together would be a real good experience for me.
