Wrong place, right time, wrong lens, right camera.
In a perfect world I would have caught this from the hill about 200 feet above me with a 70-200 or even a 300 to get a better view. However, I was stuck in the restaurant at lake level with a 24-70. Fortunately, the D800 offers pretty great flexibility in terms of cropping and can override many mistakes.
