Thanks @spraynpray, I did exactly that but applied a gray rim instead of black. I'm just leaving the original up because it's a new file and I think it'll start from scratch on the Flickr page if I change it now.

We definitely had this mom's attention. Funny that this expression only lasted for a second or two, as the shots I got a second or two on either side her attention was clearly elsewhere. It was the only shot that I got of her staring us down like this. Fortunately, I didn't see this look until long after I got home. Not sure I would have felt quite as comfortable otherwise.
