Trying to copy Ansel Adams, but I would have had to climb the hill above the highway. And while he had a clear shot in his day, there looked like there was alot of trees up there now.
Sometimes I rent a truck with a lift and drive around the city and take pictures. With the above photo I was sitting on the roof of my Sequoia with my Z9, I think, on a tripod after climbing through the sunroof.
WEF: Your photo brings back memories. About 50 years ago I was taking a photo just like that in Banff National Park with a 50mm Nikkor lens and the female moose charged me for getting too close. Fortunately for me she stopped at the water's edge as I was running back up the bank to the car. If she had not stopped she would have overtaken me. Thank God for telephoto lenses, which I was too poor to afford at that time.

Two more of my photos emulating painting styles: Regional Chester County Realist style on the left and Dutch Master's Flower Arrangements style on the right. The photos were taken with a 36mp D800 and processed in Topaz Impressions to look like oil paintings.
I just purchased a 2005 Nikon D2x (12mp DX sensor) with less than 8,500 shutter actuations for $250.00 just to see what can still be done with it. The D2x sold for $5.500.00 when new so I paid about 1/20 the price for an almost new body in excellent shape with battery and charger. The ISO native range is only 100 to 800 so that it quite a limitation compared to the high ISOs we are used to today. Outdated technology of course, but can it still produce nice photos? I used a Nikon 50mm f1.8 lens and shot this interior scene at f4 and 1/6th second on a tripod. I processed the RAW file in Nikon NX Studio and upscaled it in Studio to an 8256 x 5482 pixel jpeg file before exporting the file. I think the final file could be printed up to poster size. Click through to flckr to judge for yourself. Sometimes it is fun to work with older more limited equipment so see what you can do with it.
Nice capture Gene. It is good to see some people still here and participating. I have been trying to revive interest to no avail (see my discussion posted today about upscaling files for printing large) .
Shot with an effective 682 mp sensor at ISO 800. Click the picture to go to flckr and then click on view all sizes and then click on the original size to load the image at 100 percent and then click on the 1:1 icon to examine the image for sharpness/detail in the in-focus statute and for noise/grain in the out-of-focus areas.

Thanks Donald. I too was curious if anyone was visiting or contributing to this page. Seems like I mostly hear crickets and see tumbleweeds blowing by.
