Shot with an effective 682 mp sensor at ISO 800.

Quite impressive what the denoise tools can do these days. Feels a bit like cheating. That said, I'm finding the high ISO abilities of the Z 8 quite good.

This photo shot at ISO 500, denoised with LrC.

Moonset, satellite track, and Milky Way over an alpine lake. Denoised with LrC.

It's sad, we once had a good group here with many good discussions. Perhaps all of those people have become too old nowdays and younger ones have not been attracted to join. Perhaps they are on some other media.

Me, I used to post primarily on Photo-A-Day, but stopped after I got tired of hosting the image elsewhere. Other places I post host the images on-site; maybe with a file size restriction but that's okay to me.

My discussion interests are also a bit more technical; right now, working at discuss.pixls.us on decoding and using Nikon Z lens distortion and vignetting data from the NEF metadata. FWIW, newest exiftool (open-source, learn to love it...) now reports the data from a NEF, and it looks like bog-standard ptlens 3-parameter data.

Yes, hosting elsewhere is inconvenient. I put up with it out of loyalty to NR where in the past I learned some valuable lessons I still appreciate until to day.

Shot this morning with an old DX sensor 12 mp Nikon D300. Then the RAW image was processed with Nikon NX Studio to create a 44.9 mb file and then that file was processed through Topaz Photo AI into a 191 mb file. Check it out by clicking on the image through to flckr to view the image 1:1.

What Mountain Gene? Reminds me of Alaska when I was there. Nice photo.

I stop in to see who is doing what once in a while. I have a few images that once I get photoshop installed on this new computer I'll share.

How have you been. So sad to see not many here now. I have many ailments with age but trying to take a few as I can with my chickens. Sure do miss so many of the old familiar posters. Remember St. Augustine like it was yesterday.

Yes, I remember those days also. I guess all of us who were active on NR back then have gotten too old and younger people didn't join. I am in good heath and will be age 77 on April 8th this year. Just don't travel much anymore and have less energy so I am doing less photography. You can click on any of the photos I post and go to my flckr page to look at the photostream to see what I have been shooting over the years. Here is a photo from the NR Saint Augustine get together.

I turned 77 last November. It's to bad no younger people have joined. I pretty much stick to my back yard on this 4+ acres we live on here in Southern AL now. We can't leave home for long with all the chickens we now have to take care of. Lots of them are pets and some are serious breeders we hatch eggs from for chick sales and for hatching egg sales. I keep looking at a new camera. Waiting to see if and when a Z6iii comes out.

I do think that Z6III is going to be a killer camera at a great price with all its "trickle down" tech from the Z9 and Z8. Recently, I have been challenging myself by deliberately using old cameras costing under $300.00. For example, I bought a Nikon D2x for less than $250.00 and a D300 with battery grip for $162.00. I have been shooting in RAW and processing the images in NX View which allows upscaling. This is a tree in fog shot with the "outdated and useless" old D2x body. Click on the photo to go to flckr and then look at the image at 100%. I think it is rather amazing what can be done with such an old crop sensor.

Nice job. Really sets a mood. I sold all my cameras except the D5300 and my 70-200 f4.0 and 50mm lens. I sure miss my D500. Should have kept it but just didn't think I'd ever see a need for it again. I need 10 or more frames a second for what I like to do and I can buy a D500 gray market which I don't want to do. Rather bite the bullet and get a Z6III and use my old lenses on it. I will shoot some still chicken portraits that I'll need for marketing purposes. Outside of that and my action shots of some fancy boys and girls I'm about done. Had to many falls in the last couple of years. I sure hope some of the older members from the past will come back and post a picture now and again. It doesn't look like we even have a moderator any more. That last photo I put of of the drunk rooster I did an edit in photoshop to place him over on the right side of the image. Made it look a lot better. With that boy you never know what he will give you on any given day.

WestEndPhoto has been back a few times as have a couple of others, but not enough. The D500 was a very sweet camera and simply has not been yet replaced in Nikon's lineup. Most think it never will.
