I know the rebates didn't do much for most people but for the $400 off put me over the top with some left over. Now to start saving for a gimbal head. Be back at noon with the new 80-400mm. :D

Alas, looks like that split will be zero, Ironheart! But if it's the thought that counts, here's a whole good thought in return. :)

Just got home with a new 80-400mm. Only took a few snaps with it at the camera shop and as sevencrossing would say it is an amazing lens.It is to cold to go out anywhere and it's supposed to snow tonight and tomorrow. Maybe I can shoot out the window. Need to order a new foot for it though. Any suggestions on what one to get. Kirk/RRS.

congratulation on your new buy Parke1953. as for the foot... well, there's only one reasonable choice: Really Right Stuff. It's pricier than Kirk, but handling is much better. I had both of them with my 300/4 and Kirks' collar is way to big and you can't take the feet off. On the contrary, you can use regular N70-200/2.8vr foot on the RRS collar.

Thanks adamz. I was wondering about the foot connection on the RRS and assume it is solid and doesn't come lose over time.

    Thanks again. Just another $235.
It doesn't matter what hobby you have they all cost the same.

This hobby is way cheaper than cars and the people that spend money on cars are less likely to be able to afford it.

I have never heard of anyone having an issue with RSS equipment. I know they have terrific customer service and a good warranty. I have been taking lots of macro pictures the past five weeks and my RSS macro focusing rail is outstanding. Cost a lot but oh my it makes macro pictures so much easier. I will start posting flowers in PAD shortly.

One more thought, Golf should be paid by RRS for all the positive comments and recommendations he has made over the years. :D Seriously, I had some Kirk lens plates and sold them once I started using more of my RRS plates. I started out with half my stuff in Kirk and half in RRS. I am 100% RRS for a reason. QUALITY & DESIGN.

The RRS long lens support with 2 support points has transformed my 200-400 /4 and I will use it on my new 400/ 2.8 as well
