Specs are out... 6.5 burst does not an action camera make.
    same opinion.
missing D400, I would hope to use a d750 in crop mode
I hope 8 fps in FX, and more in crop mode ...
    disappointed, again and again ...

Wait for what adding the grip will do - D700 went from 5 to 7.5-8 (I believe). From all appearances the processor can handle up to 9 with that resolution.

    Finely Wifi!
ISO 100-12,800 - may mean 1/2 a stop gain in usable ISO.
1080p @60p and stereo mics are a very good start. Hopefully the encoding is what video users want to use.

Basically a D810 with a 24mp sensor, tilt screen and a few upgraded video options.

+1 @PitchBlack on 6.5 NOT being an action camera.
    ===========================================================
The leaked specs posted on the main Blog match up to all of our predictions. Could not paste them here so here are the typed highlights:
    +24.3 MP FF sensor
+Compact lightweight, energy efficient design - darn, I was hoping for big body i.e. D300/D810
    +Build-in flash
    +Double SD card slot
+3.2" RGB monitor with 1.2 million pixels
+Robust design & expensive weather sealing - bet they mean extensive not expensive sealing.
    +New improved mirror/shutter mechanism
+AF system with 51 focus areas
+RGB sensor with approx 91,000 pixels
+Light-weighted metering option - what does that mean???
+"burst rate of 6.5 fps - darn...very disappointed. Perhaps the battery grip will boast this to 8 fps
+Full Frame CMOS sensor with EXPEED 4
    +ISO 100 - 12,800 (expandable to 50-51,200)
+Effects Modes improved Picture Control Full-HD video with 1080p at 24/25/30/50/60p
    +improved functionality while filming
    +Integrated stereo microphone
+Exposure preview and aperture control in Live View mode
    +Built-in WiFi via UT-1 and WT-5
    ========================================================

Overall this looks good except for the 6.5 FPS rating. Now what does the control layout look like on top and back. Still has my interest.

"Built-in wifi" to me is not having to plug in a dongle like those "UT-1 and WT-5" transmitters - at least, that's how I'm reading it.

The "built in" simply means it has the necessary circuit to accept the UT-1 or WT-5. I agree kenadams, built in means everything is built into the body not just set-up for the dongle.

Lets see how much the buffer can hold and how fast it will clear it while writing to the memory card. If you can shoot...continuously for 6-8 seconds without the buffering filling up, I'm willing to say that this will suit many action photographers needs seeking a sport camera in this size frame.

What? A change from Expeed 3 to Expeed 4 is only good for an additional half frame per second? That doesn't seem right: should be more. But I am very happy with the 51 point AF (hopefully group area AF also) and the native ISO to 128,000 (should translate to about a half stop to a full stop better high ISO images between ISO 2000 and 6400. I have been using a max ISO of 2,000 on my D600 and may be able to go to a max ISO of 3,000 with the D750. Also is there an AA filter or not? Faster better AF with wider coverage and better high ISO may make an upgrade worthwhile for me. Looking forward to the reviews.

Least you forget that the sub $1000 D7100 with its measly, old, and forgotten EXPEED 3 processor runs 6 fps at 24 MP and at 7 fps in the crop mode. ;)

I am with those that are underwhelmed at this "action" camera. It seems to me to be a camera that Nikon produced to target the 5DM3 owners and cut the jugular of Canon's cash cow instead of breaking new ground and pushing innovation forward.

Totally agree with your comment. If you can shoot continuously for 6 to 8 seconds without filling that buffer it will meet my requirements and I bet a lot of photographers who shoot BIF. Still hoping that adding the battery grip boast the fps.

@manhattanboy could be right about Nikon only made this model to target the 5DM3 buyers.

6.5 is not an action camera, it may be a great general purpose camera but I don't think I'm going to trade my D4 any time soon. Ah well, 2 more years or so to the D5.
  • BabaGanoushBabaGanoush Posts: 252Member
This appears to be a camera designed "by committee" with a little bit of this and a little bit of that but nothing that shouts "BUY ME!!!". It is not the best of anything or at anything in particular. Unless Nikon has something more innovative in the pipeline that's still under wraps, the D750 is just warmed over turkey. I will keep my wallet zipped and wait until next January when, rumor has it, Sony will announce a new line of full frame cameras sporting a brand new 46 MP sensor.
  • donaldejosedonaldejose Posts: 3,675Member
If Sony has a new 46mp sensor nearly ready maybe we will soon see it in a Nikon body. D4x? D810x?

The D750, what the D600/D610 should have been from the start...
If I take a good photo it's not my camera's fault.
  • donaldejosedonaldejose Posts: 3,675Member
Maybe it will be more than we now predict. What does "Compact, lightweight energy efficient design" mean? Is this something other than the traditional D610 style body and construction? What is "energy efficient?" The Expeed 4 processor? Maybe there will still be some surprises.
  • PB_PMPB_PM Posts: 4,494Member
My guess is "energy efficient" that is refuring to the Expeed 4, which improved the battery life of the D4s and the D810 over their predecessors.
If I take a good photo it's not my camera's fault.

The D750, what the D600/D610 should have been from the start...
It's a different market segment. The D610 is the D3300 of full-frame. It's probably far cheaper to produce than the 750.
Yes, that's true. I'm just noting that because there have been some rumors that the D610 could be discontinued after the D750 release. I know that doesn't make much sense, but maybe the D600/D610 market demand is/was smaller than anticipated?
If I take a good photo it's not my camera's fault.

Well, so we went from 5.5 fps in the d600 to 6 fps in the d610 to 6.5 fps in the D750.

It does look like a D610 update .. Where is the D620 going to fit ? There is no space between the D610 and the D750 is there ? surely its the end of the D6XX series? .. hmm maybe expeed4 + 51 af points + wifi.

Probably a D5xx camera is next.. with expeed 4 + 5FPS and no focus motor.

From my perspective a few things..

#1) Nikon hasn't officially said anything about this being an action camera. Those comments came from rumors.

#2) If this had been the camera that was released prior to the D800 as the D700 replacement, people would have been thrilled beyond belief. It bests the D700 across the board, gives it a much needed MP boost, shoots faster, better LCD, better AF unit, better metering, modern sensor with better ISO capabilities, built in Wi-Fi, etc, etc, etc.

#3) This camera does compare very favorably against a Canon 5DM3 and doesn't seem to be the "perfect" camera thus taking sales away from the D810.

#4) The D610 isn't going anywhere anytime soon. Still a fine fine camera at a very good price. Entry level FF body, I do think D750 will steal away quite a few of the sales of this unit, but for those on a serious budget, the D610 sits there nicely.

All Nikon is missing is a product to compete against the Canon 7D M2. That, unfortunately, may never actually happen.

Jon, regarding item #2 - great assessment.
Regarding item #4: I continue to laugh when people say this is a replacement for the D610. As you so clearly said, the D610 is the entry level FF body. Not sure why people don't get this point. I do agree that Nikon will lose sales of the D610 for pro's and advanced amateurs who want something better than the D610. IMHO, the D750 sure looks like a great bridge camera. No camera is perfect and no camera can meet everyone's expectations. DSLR are like phones, cars, and Audio equipment - you have to make compromises when selecting these items.

For sure there are going to be two or three or four features that prevent the D750 from being a "perfect" FF body. Our tasks is to assess if it meets our requirements. When a new model rumor starts the fun starts as we all describe and predict what we want and then when it is released the complaining starts. Such is life. Rant over.

We need more details .. so far it sounds more like a FF D5300... feature wise the D610 is the FF D7100 (except for the 51AF) not the D3300 (FF D3300 = D500?), so it(D750) does not look that much better than the D610. As I mentioned in another thread although the D610 is the lowest level FX for the moment, its in no way "entry level".

The price for the D600 when first introduced was almost exactly the same as the D750 probably about 100 less than the D750. It sure looks like it is the replacement for the D610. The more I think about it the more it looks like the D6XX line has ended .. there is really no space for a D620 in the line up especially if they introduce the FX version of the D3300 (D500?) ie no AFmotor in body, lighter etc.

The D620 is fitting "down". It will be the $1,300 full frame offering. The D500 will be the $750 full frame offering and the D400 will be the $500 sub full frame offering.

If Admin is correct that the D750 has been labels by Nikon as an "action camera," then I can assure you that it has been in the hands of many "pro-action photographers" for testing. Their feedback should, moreover, I'm hoping, Nikon has incorporated them into the final realized product and should bear fruit for those that have been seeking a D700 replacement.
It does look like a good little camera. I hope the D700 people are finally happy.
