When to expect D750 successor?

GloorGloor Posts: 9Member
Hey guys, do you think its likely that we will see an update to D750 within the next 3-6 months, please?

What events should I keep an eye on also? Now that CES is gone and empty :)

My guess is that the next major renewal will be on the D810 instead of the D750.

And when do you think will that be? April?

I'm just speculating but I'm thinking in the Fall. These problems they're having with the DL line has me very cautious.

    Not even in CP+ ???

Nikon cannot even get products they announced last year to market (DL series) heaven help us if they announce something else new, you might see it hit the market 10 months later.
If I take a good photo it's not my camera's fault.

Or of course they have the real cameras on track for the 100 anniversary and are just delaying the toy cameras while they build stock . They came up with junk at the CES so lets hope its all held back for CP+

So are you guys not expecting any FF camera this year? (except the Df "nonsense" :D )
  • WestEndFotoWestEndFoto Posts: 3,742Member
My prediction for this year is a DF2, D620 and a D820. The D760 and D5s and D5x will follow next year. I will buy a D820, or a D5x depending on what it is.

On another note, if the DF2 is the DF with minor tweaks and still a DSLR, I will likely buy one of those. That will be fun - isn't that one of the points of photography as a hobby? I suppose that I am a sucker for nonsense.

The D610, D750, and D810 are all due for an update, Nikon usually starts at the top, and works down. There is the possibility that the D610 and D750 will merge into a D760. All of this is rumor.

@WestEndFoto I love my DF, and would trade it in for, or just add to the stable, a DF2 in an (iron)heartbeat. It lets me use all of my old lenses without a hitch, and I love^3 the manual controls for ISO, shutter speed, and aperture. Mine is pretty much glued on M mode, although that's true for my D500, and D7200, and D5100 too...

    I would say I am 75% A mode, 25% M mode and 0% other mode.

A new bottom of the FX line as a D760, a D850 and a new D900 sounds interesting to me. Is there really room for 4 FX cameras below the D5?

I started with a D5100 and shot with my old manual lenses most of the time as the kit lens was either too slow or too short. As I moved to newer lenses and now a D500 I find myself using A or S most of the time.

Retread, I suspect that Nikon will update the D610 which will be there new low end as part of a strategy to bring FX down in price.
  • retreadretread Posts: 574Member
WestEmdFoto, it they do the same as they did on the D3400 and D5600 will there be much interest? I can understand the price point.
  • WestEndFotoWestEndFoto Posts: 3,742Member
There are lots of ways to upgrade the D610, but even if the upgrade was trivial and they dropped the price by a third, it would be very attractive to an entry level user.
  • PistnbrokePistnbroke Posts: 2,443Member
All there upgrades so far have been downgrades ..3300 to 3400 worse ...55oo to 5600 worse .... price drops ??? What planet are you on?
  • WestEndFotoWestEndFoto Posts: 3,742Member
Earth. Why, are we on different planets?

There is a logic here. If Nikon wants to arrest it's market share erosion in a declining market, it meets to enter new markets. Cheaper FX is such a market.

I hope this catches on. Maybe I can buy that Ferrari for the same price as my Toyota Camry some day. Seriously, WEF, I don't see that happening. If anything I see Nikon improving their high end line in an attempt to stay close to the new era of mirrorless medium formats that are now coming out (Hassy & Fuji). They'll likely wind up costing more than a D5. Probably keep the D7XX, and the D9XX, and retire the D6XX.

I see them addressing the high end too. But what is Nikon going to do when Sony and Canon introduce thousand dollar full frame cameras?

Would be nice, but don't count on it. I expect the new models to be $500-800 more than the current models, Nikon has to keep profit margins up, which won't happen if they don't increase the price, that is after adding the basically useless snapbridge (aka WIFI and Bluetooth modules) to all the cameras.

The D750 is the D610 replacement, the only reason the D610 is around is because they made so many of them and they aren't selling. So we'll like see a D750 replacement, D810 replacement and maybe a D7xxx refresh this year at the most. Not much to refreash, since they likely all keep using the same 24MP sensors for the low end (D7xx, Df2) and maybe a 40+MP sensor for the D8xx-D900, along with a processor bump.
If I take a good photo it's not my camera's fault.
  • PeachBlackPeachBlack Posts: 141Member
Yeah, don't expect a D810 replacement to cost anything less than $3000. If it's over 50mp, I'd expect it to be priced like the Canon 5DSR, which is around $3900. If it is, I won't be getting one for a long time.
  • WestEndFotoWestEndFoto Posts: 3,742Member
I don't have an issue paying for a top end camera so I won't squak to much about the price. However, I would like to see Nikon make FX more accessible. If they don't someone else will and they will continue to suffer.

I am reasonable certain the D610/D600 was the most prolific nikon fx camera in one of the statistic websites recently (number of images/camera models) (cant remember the website) I dont know if that equates to sales but it cant be that bad...

You can google: "flickr by camera" to get the link." My guess is that the more pro the camera, the more it is used. There are certainly scads of lower end DSLRs that are purchased as gifts or by people thinking that they want to get into photography, that try it for a while then leave the camera collecting dust. So my guess is that amongst more expensive cameras, there should be a fairly decent correlation between sales and use, while comparisons between high end and lower end cameras are fairly meaningless.

Ranked by "Activity Factor" which is a metric that Flickr derives to determine which cameras are used a lot, obviously the most used are cameras with four numbers. Rank is among all Nikon cameras. I am excluding models that are a couple of generations old.

Among the "pro" cameras we have:

    4. D750
    9. D800
    11. D810
    16. D600
    18. D610
    24. D500
    25. D4
    29. D5
    42. D800E
    59. Dƒ

Obviously using Flickr isn't an exact science. But the D750 has 1589 daily users. The D600/D610 combined have 1253 daily users... The D800/810/800E has 2185. The D500 isn't exactly burning up the charts, and limping in at a hefty 107 daily users is the misbegotten and forsaken Dƒ. How'd that one work out?

What I find terribly interesting, is that if you were to ask me to rank Nikon's line by a price/performance ratio, or bang for the buck, it would pretty strongly correlate with the list above.

The one I was thinking about was not flickr but some website where they accumulate data from several imaging websites like flickr and 500px , etc, etc.
