Interestingly this hasn't been an issue with Sony up till now...

Then of course they also grabbed a lot of people new to photography, since for many Sony is more more well known name than say Nikon, which outside of photography circles isn't that well known.
I think even the most vague person in regards to photography (even someone who's never owned a camera) would know of Nikon.
Hard to say, most people I’ve tried to suggest Nikon to just look at me blankly and said, ‘so Sony or Canon?’
If I take a good photo it's not my camera's fault.

Hand holding 60 mp should be ok with IBIS.

    I'm guessing $4000 for Z8.

I hope it's not $4k. That will be another blunder Nikon makes if it's the case. Most of the people waiting to buy Z8 are unlikely existing Z mount owners. To them, there is little barrier between Z mount and Sony FE. Unless Z8 blows out a7r4 which I highly doubt, (I expect parity at best), it will just push many of those people who's on the fence to the other side. By the time it releases which will be end of the year, a7r4 probably can be had for $2.5k during sales. A $4k Z8 will not be competitive and will just hasten people's decision now that they see what Nikon has in offer.

4K is high for sure. $3500 is more reasonable. My reasoning on the $4K is that the Z7 is theoretically priced at $3400 (even though its always heavily discounted now) and this would of course be more. Maybe if they officially dropped the Z7 down to the current de facto $2800-3000 price then they could do the Z8 at $3500.

Highly doubt A7R4 will be $2500 by the end of the year. I'd say $3K at the lowest. $2500 is a full 1000 under the current price, and its what they are selling the A7R3 for. A $2500 A7R4 would mean a $1800 (or so) A7R3 and I don't see that happening any time soon. If the past is any guide they will keep selling the R3 for a long time and I don't think they want to bring it down that low.

On the Nikon USA website the 45mp D850 is currently $3,000 while the Z7 is currently $2.800; $200 less. The 24 mp D780 is $2,300 while the Z6 is $1,800; $500 less. Same mp in a mirrorless body is selling for less money than in a DSLR body. The D850 launched at a price of $3,300. This bodes well for a Z8 body priced well below $4,000 because the 60mp sensor body will be the replacement for the 45mp sensor body and can be expected to be launched at maybe $200 or $300 higher than the launch price of the D850. If the replacement for the D850 is a 60mp sensor and that same sensor is in a Z8 it would be reasonable for the launch price of a Z8 to be in the range of $3,500. The funny thing will be seeing people shooting images at 60mp and then downsizing most of those images to about 2mp for posting on line!

$4000 would put it between the Sony A7R4 ($3500) and the Sony A9ii ($4500). The current list price (non discounted) of the d850 is $3,296.95.

I really think that if Nikon can add all the features that the rumor claims it will have while matching the auto focus lock of the 850 then early adapters would go for $3999.

The Sony A9II is Sony's sports action wildlife 24mp body. It better compares to Nikon's D5 and D6 body. When you add the Sony vertical grip to the A9II you are at a price of $5,000. Sony's 60mp body is the A7RIV for $3500. That should be the more direct competitor to a 60mp Z8. The Canon high megapixel competitor is the 50 mp 5DS and 5DSR for $3500 and $3700. Let's hope for a price of $3500.

This video does a good job of demonstrating the 3.0 firmware update and the shooting style I have switched too to improve hit rate.

Since I have a z7 and I love it, the Z8 will need to really great to make me upgrade.

Canon has a high megapixel competitor?

I kid - yes I know those cameras out out there yet seriously they are never talked about. Ever. Not sure why. Whenever someone discusses high MP cameras it's always between the Nikons and the Sonys. Or occasionally the Panasonic S1R now. The Canon might as well not exist.
