Thanks all, for your comments on Flickr for my last few photos. She's an associate in my place of work...from Romania. One day we struck up a conversation about photography and I found out that she's a shutterbug as well and agreed to a portrait session.
Getting back to nature. After placing 2nd in a local nature photo contest back in April and winning the opportunity to hang out for a day with a nature photographer by the name of John Lopinot this coming November, I'm gonna get back into the brush and hone my skills. Since I am heading back out to the woods tomorrow, I will skip to the end for today and tomorrow. Myself, Nickelodeon, Cricket, and Pancakes just above treeline on Katahdin. Katahdin is easily the toughest, most technical climb on the Trail. The part around treeline gains about 1700 feet in a mile, and I had to use my hands more to pull myself up / lower myself down here than anywhere else. It doesn't feel that hard though, as you are quickly into an alpine environment and can look behind you to see an inspiring view. Once you get closer to the top and you reach the flat area called the Tablelands, you can see the summit which a thru-hiker has walked two thousand miles to reach.
I used a much smaller aperture than normal since I was resting my camera right on one of the boulders, and wanted to capture the white blaze in the very near foreground in adequate focus. For an idea of how close that blaze is to the camera, it is about 6" long.
Awesome shot Pickerel. I'm assuming you were the only through hiker in a kilt.
Not sure if I've shared this before. Apologies if it's a repeat. Talk about your bad hair days. D90 | 300mm + TC17 | f/4.8 | 1/4000s | ISO 250 | -1/3 EV

Here is another Fried Egg Jellyfish. They are rather large (about 30 cm in diameter) and there are some fish in some of them. Looks quite funny.
Smile...
Pierre, :-)
All - so terrific...

Now that Flickr is back, here a view from NYC that I found unusual.
