Just got back from two weeks on Panama/Costa Rica so I'm getting caught up. I have about 2,000 or so images to wade through. Suffice to say my decision to rent an additional D800 was a great one. The low light capabilities of that camera are off the charts IMO. I shot in DX a few times when I felt I needed the additional reach, but for the most part I was able to get close enough or crop. Here's the first of what will be many. D800 | 300mm + TC1.4 | f/4 | 1/8000s | ISO 800 | -2/3 EV
Had a problem with an ultra wide lens for my Medium Format setup. I'd bought the lens used from Ffordes in Scotland by mail order and it had gone faulty. After an unsuccessful repair, they and Pentax replaced it with a brand new lens - not bad bearing in mind I paid less than half the price of new, so extended waiting time was worth it. Took it out between the showers today to give it a runout.
Shot with a D800 and an 85/1.4. The hazy effect isn't from Photoshop or any kind of filter. I held a class crystal in front of the lens to purposefully create flare. It can be a nice effect.
@pitchblack - Always love your work and the brief description of what you did on them.
Happy new year everyone. I did go out on new year for a sunrise, weather was great, the cloud formation was amazing. Unfortunately the weather forecast gave me wrong time (1 hr late), arrrgh. Will post if I can manage to go through the shots.
Mine for today. We were hiking up to a waterfall, and after having carried my 300 for most of the week, my wife begged me to travel light with no long lenses. We compromised, and I brought along a 70-200 in addition to my 17-35. She rolled her eyes, but agreed. We were about halfway through the hike, having spotted nothing but a few howler monkeys high up in the trees (and well out of my range), when I rounded a corner and encountered this spider monkey with a baby, which our guide estimated to be about a week old. I was able to pop off about 20 frames in 2 minutes or so before she moved on, but this was the only one where they were both looking straight at the camera. I'm pretty certain I was the first human this baby had ever laid eyes on. Note the lack of noise at ISO 2000. Easily one of my favorite images of the trip. One of the first shots I took with the D7100. SB700 TTL bounce flash off the wall behind me and to my right.
I think I'm gonna like this camera.
