How's it going everyone? Brand new to the forum and rather new to Nikon as well. I have always been interested in taking pictures with cheap cameras and phones and such. only recently have I started getting deeper into the sublect as my wifes fashion web site has taken off and she needed photographer. I shot all of Nashville Fashion Week 2014 with an iPhone 4s and decided then and there that I needed to up my game a bit. So I now have a Nikon D3200 DSLR and an SB700 flash and two entry level lenses. At the moment I'm still trying to figure out the basics. I have been shooting in full manual mode 95% of the time and once in a while try aperture priority.

I get a good shot once in a while but fast moving girls in low light are tricky to capture.

My name is Deano. I live in Indiana. I've been a professional photographer for over 30 years, starting off with a Pentax K1000 camera - then going up to a Pentax ME-Super, and then to a Pentax MX (if my memory serves me correctly)....I was taught in the darkroom how to manipulate my hands to make a zillion variations of a black and white print (way before Photo Shop)... I went to Photojournalism school in the late 80's and then worked at several newspapers. When publishers decided that photography was not important, I was downsized out, and then opened up a photography business taking photos of weddings, high school seniors, etc. Then the economy takes a dump and I'm working again in higher education as a photographer again - but now, I'm also shooting video (because of it's demand) with a DSLR camera. All of this time I was shooting with Canon equipment for over 25 years up until a few weeks ago when I finally made the switch to Nikon. Why? Well, I had wanted to do it quite some time before but a fellow staff photographer got me hooked on Canon because that was what "everybody" was shooting with. Shortly before switching to Canon, I used a Nikon 8008 film camera that was a great machine. It accompanied the 80-200 F 2.8 and 300 F 4 which were staples in the newspaper industry! I recently switched to Nikon because I truly believe the autofocus and exposure system is far superior and more accurate. I don't care what Canon users say, it's hands down, night and day to me. My chances of getting a great image is much higher. I also think the Nikon interface is much easier than Canon. Keep it simple, stupid ! I now shoot with a D4 (which I really love !) and 70-200 F 2.8 and 300mm F 4. I want to get a wider zoom soon and a D800 body for illustrative work. I am sure glad I made the switch. After purchasing a 'bad' D4 that had focusing issues in the manual focusing mode (Yes, I'm still one of the few pros who don't fully rely on autofocus as I still have follow-focus skills) and swapped it out for another D4 copy that works exceptionally now ! I'm glad I found your forum and the members have been very helpful. Thanks all !

@challydeano - welcome to NRF from one member to another. Really appreciate the time and effort telling us about you and your switch from that other company to Nikon.

Take your time and use the search feature, even thou it is weak, to read more about cameras. And don't for get to post some of your images in PAD. There is an excellent "how to post" written by the moderators if you need help uploading. Again welcome to the Nikon Rumor Forum.

    Hi everyone!

I live in Stockholm, Sweden and work as a systems specialist at Royal Institute of Technology. I am a dedicated Wikipedian since 2009. I started to take photos for Wikipedia during an illustration race in spring 2010 and have been doing so since. Started out with a small Canon Ixus and stepped up via Nikon D5100 to D7100. Have published about 1500 photos on Wikimedia Commons, a few of them being "picture of the month" or "valued images".

Hello everyone, I've been following and reading Nikon Rumors for some time now and enjoy the information and some great conversations. I've been a Nikon owner, both SLR and DSLR, for about 14 years and have really enjoyed the cameras and lenses. I've recently dipped my toe into the Sony mirrorless a6000 and a couple of lenses, great little camera for the money, nice technology, but I'm still not sold on the mirrorless systems just yet. I'm hoping Nikon will finally get around to building a decent mirrorless system so I can continue using the lenses I've accumulated and anticipate accumulating.

I look forward to participating in some discussions and asking some questions of other members' experiences with specific gear and techniques.

  • Just came back to Nikon after many years with Canon. I bought my first SLR back in 1981 (Olympus OM-10) and learned some developing back then as well. I enjoyed photography, dropped the OM-10 from my tripod, broke it and moved on to a Canon A-1 in 1982. Shot the A-1 until the shutter died in the 90's and finally moved to a Nikon N75. Wife version 2.0 got the camera in the divorce so I started shooting small format digital for a few years and eventually came to a DSLR (Canon 50D). I figured it was time to upgrade the 50D this year, tried a 7D Mk.II but decided to take the full format plunge. Back to Nikon I ran for a D750. I'm still learning the Nikon layout and also investing in new glass. Love this forum however. I'm still learning like we all are.
