My D810 is back. 7 days, door to door. The black dot is just a mark with a marker.

Now all I need is my D810 RRS L-bracket.

    Great news @Symphotic !

Mine is ready, I'll pick it up on Friday ;;)

Just to make the stage clear for Nikon' announcement of D750. But that's more tempting for D4s / DF target group, I guess.

One fine day Apple will wake up and compile a Raw-compatibility update. Or Capture One comes first, who knows? And as the last bit of Sofwtare I'm waiting for, Reikan's FoCal gets updated.

    Oh well, one day.

Quite correct. The USB connection is fine, although the cover is just a little too long to open easily.

I've been using a D800 bracket and the only problem is you can't open all three covers for the connectors at the same time. The D810 bracket will be enlarged slightly on the top and bottom so those two covers will open.

The solution is to pull the D800 L-bracket away from the body and re-tighten the screw, leaving a gap between the L-Plate's Portrait side and the connector covers. This is a good fix, but not great, as if you reposition the camera from landscape to portrait, you loose the vertical axis alignment we have all grown to love with the RRS L-Brackets.

I'll post pictures of the new L-bracket once it arrives.

I shipped my D810 to Nikon (L.A.) on August 19. Nikon acknowledged receipt on August 22. Nikon performed the repairs and shipped on August 26. Scheduled delivery is August 29. Pretty good turnaround! (although I still say the camera should have had better QA/QC).

RRS has also shipped the new L-Plate which will be delivered tomorrow, August 28. I should have everything ready for this weekends gathering of 200+ Porsche 356s. Now if only the showers hold off. Life is good.

Got mine from B&H today. This is my first FF camera. :x Though I have rented a few number times before. Currently exploring all the menu options and taking test shots with my 85mm 1.4.
By the way, my serial number says "Not affected" in the Nikon website wrt "White dot issue". :)

I haven't sent my D810 in to get the firmware fix done for the thermal issue yet, I will do it when I'm in Sydney because I can walk in with the camera.

Has anyone that done the fix noticed anything negative about the sharpness or detail in the images or anything negative about doing the update? I can't even see the thermal dots or spots in my photos & I don't want to do anything to this camera that might impact on how awesome the images are.

Though many had already had the procedure done, what do you think?

    Thanks Sanook.

ps: I've only just got 1000 up, I find to be staring at the results, I'm very happy to use this camera with the wild life but I seem to have a new passion for landscapes too :)

I now am saving for some new primes.....has anyone used the Nikkor 58mm on this camera?

I now am saving for some new primes.....has anyone used the Nikkor 58mm on this camera?
I returned my original to the store for a refund. I then purchased a new one from a different retailed that already had the fix applied from the factory. The new camera had approximately 150-200 shutter clicks on it, but there is something different about this camera. I know this may sound strange, but I am a pretty intuitive person and I can pick up on subtleties very well. When people see the pictures with this replacement camera, they are amazed at the quality, but I feel there is something different with the replacement camera. I thought I had better exposures straight from the camera with the first one. I also felt skin tones were more realistic with the first one and also the OVF face detection appeared to work better. I'm not saying the replacement camera is drastically different, I just fell something different. On my first camera, my Sigma 35mm art needed AF adjustment, but I was able to set it with the USB drive and it was pretty much the same across all focus distances, if you are familiar with this lens. I needed + 9 / +9 /+10 / +10 and 0AF fine tuning on the camera. With the replacement camera, it is all over the place. I needed +3 / +4 /+6 / +6 and a +3 AF fine tune in the camera. So based on that, I can tell something is different with the new camera. I know, no two cameras are alike, but these appears to be way off. Maybe I'm crazy, but my gut is telling me to return this one also. I know a lot of people will say I'm crazy and I should be out shooting, blah, blah blah, but you know what? It's my money and I won't be satisfied until I get a body I am happy with. I'm almost starting to think I should have kept the original body and just used LENR, but then again, it would have always been in the back of my mind thinking about what if a problem crops up down the road or when it is out of warranty. Oh well...time to pack this sucker up and order my third one.

@AtomicPunk: Why did the "new" camera have 150-200 shots on it when you got it? Maybe a monday-morning-model someone decided to return?

Well..I don't think this was a return. This new camera was one of the ones in a new batch this major camera store received with the fix. The serial number was high, so I figured it should have been new. I think this is how many shots they made while applying the fix. On other camera forums, people are getting their cameras with a shutter count of zero. Either Nikon forgot to reset mine, to maybe there was something wrong and they had to keep changing something and testing, who knows. Maybe it was a return to a store and it got mixed in with the recall because I believe every retailer had to send their stock back to Nikon once this issue was revealed. Maybe someone else had this camera and ran their tests and determined, like I did, something was wrong. I'll let everyone know how the third body goes.

I know. I done think the retailer has it since it fell under the service advisory. They had to send it in to Nikon regardless. I'm dealing with on line retailers here. Unfortunately, in my area we don't really have any local camera stores. There is one, but they are so far behind the times, I don't know how they stay in business, plus they are in a bad neighborhood. I wouldn't feel comfortable stepping out the door with a 3K camera in hand, even if they had one in stock.

    AtomicPunk,

THANKYOU for taking the time to write a reply to me. I am by reluctant to do anything with this camera, I can't see any thermal bright spots and I did a few dozen time lapse in excess of 30 seconds and absolutely nothing. I only did them in FX, as I've only played with the 1.2 crop in the day time shooting ducks.

It's a pity this tiny issue hash come up because everything else is faultless. I was originally worried about slow frame rates with the camera but tbh it's more than adequate. I took some picture of Carbon Fibre the other day and the detail in the picture is better than what I can see looking with my eye! it's crazy land.

I don't think I want to go to Nikon at this stage, if the applied the fix to my camera and it became something else I would probably get homicidal LOL (just kidding).

    THANKYOU.

You could have waited to month 10 or 11 then send it in and you get a nice cleaning too.
@Sanook I tried it with the 58mm but I didnt fine tune. On the D800 and DF it did a good job imo. There are two threads regarding the 58mm. They are very big with lots of comments.

Here is my results and towards the end its the D810

About 10 days ago I posted the comment that the local dealer had taken in three D800 on D810. Let me update that. I was in the local camera store today and the manager has taken in five D800 on trade for D810. He has sold three of those used D800 and does not expect to have these two much longer.

For a city of approximately 250,000 people, I was really surprised how many D800 owners were trading up to the D810. I am not surprised with how easy he is selling the D800.

Regarding his inventory of D810's. Only two of the models have the "white" spot in the tripod spot. Most of the owners who have the ones with the "black" spot are waiting to see if there are any other updates before sending them back to Nikon for the fix.

I find it interesting that so many D800 owners are upgrading from to the D810. What I see in this form was most D800 owners are staying with their excellent DSLRI. I am either in a hot spot for D800/D810 owners or there is going to be lots of people upgrading around the world. I am also intereted in seeing if the majority of D810 buyers are buying their first D8XX body or if they are upgrading from the D800.

There's nothing worse on D810 and a lot things improved, so I do understand why that happens - excluding the usual "newer is always better" feeling geeks so easily get.
Regarding his inventory of D810's. Only two of the models have the "white" spot in the tripod spot. Most of the owners who have the ones with the "black" spot are waiting to see if there are any other updates before sending them back to Nikon for the fix.
The devices with the black spot ARE fixed already - so why would somebody send one of those back to Nikon except for regular service or repair?

I came to this forum after I got D800, so I can't tell how many of the longer participants updated two years ago from D700. And I think that was a big jump - while the D800 to D810 update is "only" for convenience and reliability, there's not much to be seen in IQ itself, besides of pixel peeping. It's the handling and (most important to me) a lot of things happened in AF improvements - but landscapers don't benefit much of it - if at all… However, I sold two DX bodies and two lenses as to me the D810 is the best DX compared to the ones I had -additionally to the other things it also is. D800 became 2nd body until I find out there are no much occasions I'll use it.

Looks like I mixed them up. I thought the white spot was the code that it was fixed. Sorry about that, I switched them around.

Just got a D810 for a second camera and experienced an auto focus issue in the field. Have a 300mm 2.8 AFS ED DII with a TC-14EII tele-converter attached. The same set up works perfectly on MY D3 but no auto focus on D810. Take the tele-converter off the D810 and the 300 2.8 works fine. Any ideas what I may be doing wrong?
