I have the opportunity to "upgrade" to a secondhand D810 at a price that is a bit less than 2/3 a new D810. I would be upgrading from a D610.. but If i do this I will be giving up the D500 for the foreseeable future... ( the camera that I have been pining for for 8 years !! At the moment, where I am, the D500 price is just crazy .. almost the same as a D810. help a NAS sufferer ? a D810 is good right ? I mean how great can the D500 be, right? It doesn't even have a Pop up flash !

Hearty, I have the D750/D7100 as you know and I handled the D810 extensively at our recent big yearly photoshow. I was all over it because I thought I may 'upgrade' to it. My conclusion was 'no thanks'. It is slow and unwieldy in comparison to my D750 and I realised that for all practical purposes all I would be buying was a slower editing work-flow. there is no question in my mind that the images I get from my D750 are good enough to get the best shots out there, it is only talent and effort that lets me down. YMMV of course.
@spraynpray Thanks for your input.. the D810 gray is cheaper than the D500 here.. sigh.. and that second hand one is cheaper still.. .. but you may be right .. I am not a studio shooter or landscaper.. where the D810 shines.. thanks for the input .. NAS subsided ..

The shutter on the 810 is sooo nice. Shot a wedding this past weekend and the Qc shutter helped tremendously. One huge letdown for the 500 is that the D5's silent shooting mode from liveview did not get trickled down into the 500. Would have been a killer feature to be able to shoot from the tilt screen in complete silence. Oh well...
I could care less about Nikon Speed lights The SB-80dx worked, the SB-800 worked, the SB 900 I have over heats after a couple photo's, I read about the same problem with the SB-910, etc, etc, etc,
I know the SB-5000 has a cooling system, but I am done buying Nikon Speed Lights at $500-$600 a pop.
Most people would not choose the alternate option I did, but I carry a studio strobe, a few grids and a battery pack in a small pelican case if I really need the extra light.
The output of a speedlight compared to a 640ws strobe is horrid.
