Another view of Grand Prismatic Spring, Yellowstone. This is the place a week ago that a visitor crashed his photographic drone into. One good reason why such drones are not permitted in national parks.

The pros rent a helicopter or small plane to get those fantastic overhead shots of Prismatic Springs. However there an option. See that hill in the background, you climb to the top of it and the pictures are terrific. You drive past the springs to a parking lot at a head of a trail. Hike 1 to 1.2 miles until you are at the backside of the Prismatic Springs. Then up the hill. Of course it's easy walking on the trail but there is no trail going up the hill...or at least there was not one 6 years ago when I was last there. There were 8 of us on top of that hill shooting that hot summer day. It's not that steep except in a few spots and I had to climb over some down trees. I carried my camera with wide angle lens and a 70-200 in a case and made it with out falling down. You need two free hands at time to help pull you up in places.

Apparently some folks liked this one of our sun…..so…
How was this done….. Using a Thousand Oaks Solar filer. A glass mounted filter fits into the lens hood of the 400mm f/2.8 Nikkor, and the TC-20EIII behind the lens. D800E. All mounted on an Induro CT414 Tripod with the Induro GHB2 Gimbal head. This is a real pain, however as the sun is overhead, one constantly gets it in the eyes and I cannot see a darn thing on the menus as it is so bright. A dark cloth would help…LOL Processing in LR5.6 And, as this was shot from 6000 feet of altitude, it has far less atmospheric interference than previous attempts.
New Town in Songdo, Incheon. Lots of space to move around, its like a ghost town. I guess it won't be finished in time for the 2014 fall Asian Games after all.....
