I'm sure the price will be around $1200-$1400. Which would be better for me because I can put money towards lenses. B-)
I think considering the spec's appear to be a pretty modest upgrade from the current D7100, I'd hope for more of a $1199 price point. This is particularly in consideration of a weak Yen and also higher competition from the mirrorless market. The D7100/D7200 is really Nikon's best answer against Mirrorless, they should really try to be very competitive here.
Looks like Nikon didn't do too much, after all if it an't broke don't fix it right?
So no AA filter, bigger buffer (finally D300/D300s size), and added WIFI and NFC. Not bad, it might just be enough for me to trade my old D700 in for...
If I take a good photo it's not my camera's fault.
That huge buffer is worrying because it blurs the jump to a D400........
I think we must close the final chapter on the "mythical" D400/9300 I'd love to see D9300 announced but sadly we need to move on. ( and the line between "Pro" and "High-End Consumer" models have been blurred for years...

D7200, 40mm Micro Nikkor f2.8, Lowepro AW Hatchback 16,
You are correct the difference between prosumer and professional. is becoming blurred Professionals will be buying the D7200 and there are amateurs who will spend their pension pot on a D4s just out of interest; why is that worrying you
"minor upgrade?" Wait, what about the sensor's performance at high ISO? Nikon is advertising a native ISO range up to 25,600 which is two stops higher than the D7100 advertised top native range of 6,400. A legitimate improvement of two stops would be a significant achievement. Isn't that something we dreamed of just a year ago and many people said would never happen in DX? Of course, we do not yet know if this is real. Still a legitimate improvement of just one stop would be more than "minor." Also, the built-in WiFi and Snapbridge may prove to be significant functional improvements in actual use. Any photo can be quickly e-mailed right from the field. I am suggesting that the D7200 may prove to be like the D810 in that what at first glace seems to be a lot of minor improvements all add up to a considerably more desirable total package.
It still isn't "pro" because it doesn't have the "pro" control layout. The D400 remains an option and Nikon will produce it soon.
For those (like me) who think a D400 is still coming I should note:
"For a long time, Nikon shooters have been awaiting the arrival of a D400, or some kind of replacement for the D300S. We think that camera is the D7200." DPReview
From what I've read, the addition of the D750 AF system will be great for low light focusing. If this proves to be true and it works as advertised, that will be another check in the pro-upgrade column. But more so for people like me coming from a D7000.
I have two D7000s, one D7100 (my favorite camera ever), and recently my company has been investing pretty heavily in field aerial and underwater which we have results to prove that was working. My oldest grandson is now a full time photo pro and currently is using the D7000 but mostly shoots aerial and UW (not Nikon gear).
If I buy it it will be pre-ordered and probably add yet another 35mm 1.8f as the one I did own is being used by my other grandson. I don't own the 18-140 upcoming "kit" lens but I am scrimping to just buy the camera. I do feel the 35mm 1.8f is a pretty good lens. I did find myself using the 18-55basic zoom more than the 35mm 1.8f on my D3200. Much as I use the D3200 it is a very far cry from the D7100 I use mostly now. In a cold winter the D3200 is just to uncomfortable in the chill and the D7100 images are sharper. Granted the D7200 does seem like an incremental improvement. But if it does focus like the D750 it is a great addition to a pro's fleet.
I wonder if the D7200 has the Auto-ISO feature w/automatic minimum shutter speed based on the focal length, such as found the D750? [/Thinking out loud]
I AM DISAPPOINTED That is my tag line for the 7200. BUT I will say that now is the perfect time to pick up an incredible camera called the 7100.
I still think this camera is really like an "s" update to the 7100. The 800 versus 810 was probably more significant of an upgrade. I was praying they would change the shutter to mirror the 810, add Qc mode, and a tilt screen, but it didn't happen.
Been reading a bit .. :-) I like it :-) Only thing I was hoping for was the flippy screen. But thats ok. Everything else is just dandy. :-) .. Just waiting a few months for the price to settle and see if anything shakes lose.. In the mean time I am still happy with my D7000 and D610.. I may sell my D7000 and see how that goes.

Speaking of the D610, since there isn't a big difference in price between it and the D7200, how do you all think there two will compare. There are some who feel that the IQ and high ISO differences between FX/DX are being blurred. Add to that, the D7200 appears to have better AF & low light capability. Does anybody think this will detract from D610 sales?
Imaging-resorce.com reports that Nikon has assured them that the sensor in the D7200 is exactly the same as the one on the D7100 only with different masking accounting for the extra pixels. I am starting to believe that Nikon just upgraded the D7100's processor and memory chips to smaller fab versions, thus accounting for all the improved capabilities that cannot be achieved via firmware change. The wifi/NFC hardware could just be wire plugged to the motherboard as the D7100 already has a socket for a dongle. I am sure that a teardown will show us that the D7200's internals are, apart from the differences I'm speculating here, exactly the same as those on the D7100. Hope the guys at lensrentals are reading this.

I'm going to guess $1199 and hope for $1099.
+1 it does look like a modest upgrade. Not enough for me to upgrade my D7100.

I'm still just waiting for new DX lenses, they sort of hinted at that.
