For the records: It was not me starting giving names ;)

Both Sigmas I recommended from personal experience, I do find them awesome, go ahead and call me a Sigma-fanboy as well. Just don't expect me to care about ;) . Never visited the church you're referring to, but I took a couple of nightshots handheld with and didn't face much problems - alright, with D7000 I did, but D7100 was doing alright. And you, just gave it one shot in the church, failed and decided "not good for lowlight"? I guess, I do have more experience with it because it was the last and best DX-lens I sold up after selling the DX bodies. And I used it exclusively on D7100, the other bodies couldn't deliver the same lowlight performance. The guy who bought it is still really happy with it, but maybe he doesn't do as much lowlight as you are doing.

My experience and what I read about the lens' behaviour in front of an EOS 70D, it's less the lens and more the camera's AF getting trouble with shallow DoF wide open and at wide angle because I never could tell which spot in the comparatively huge AF rectangle marks the camera tries to lock on. In the beginning, there was try and error, after a while I had an intuition but no certain knowledge. So, if I can't identify the spot, how can I help the camera's AF with a better place to focus on? Canon apparently has a better focus system, kind of hybrid phase- and contrast-detection.

If I want, I can point with each lens/body to a spot where the AF-module gets a hard time to lock on properly. And with each lens I had to learn quite a while. If you're quicker, fine.

As the AF modules in Nikon bodies are the same on FX and DX models, the FX will have the advantage. Getting the same FoV, the AF module in an FX has only 2/3 of the area to cover. Bit difficult to explain, especially because I don't know how small a focus target can be to remain still catchable.

    2) a 50-105 F2 DX VR would be cool !
How 'bout the 50-135/150 f2.8 VR similar to Sigma and Tokina's design?

    2) get a Sigma 50-150/2.8, sharp like a razor

Were you living under a rock or something? Sigma 50-150mm F2.8 is out of production.

No, not living under a rock just no need to get lenses for DX. I had that 50-150 5 years ago in front of a Pentax. Out of production doesn't mean "unavailable". And the announcement "being discontinued is just from August 2014, so excuse me that I don't care much about my mistake.

Now, back to the topic: D7200. There was somebody talking about 8fps where the main blog talks about 6fps. Ah, that was one of the "if it only had..." posts?

Alright. Anybody an idea why not to prefer the D5300 with it's tilt AND swivel display? And use the cash for a nice lens? Better body of the D7x00?

    1) a 60 mm F1.2 DX would be nice ..
    2) a 50-105 F2 DX VR would be cool
    3) a 18-40 F2 DX VR would be awesome !
    1) if they can't make a 58/1.2, how do you expect to get a 60/1.2? At which costs? Cards on table, how man WILL you pay for (not "I would, if...")
    2) get a Sigma 50-150/2.8, sharp like a razor
3 get a Sigma 18-35/1.8 sharp like two razors :D

You're asking for high level lenses (at even higher costs) with reduced versatility if one wants to go mirrorless or FX in a camera segment which is about to extinguish - or do you see some reason why new hobbyists should bother with mirror or mediocre shallow DoF? Come on, DX-shooters, start the beatings and feel happy :) . DX was the future when digital photography started.

    1) the reason they can possibly make an 60mm F1.2 DX is bec of the smaller image circle to cover DX.
    2) there is a difference between F2 and F2.8.
    3) I am suggesting a compromise on Aperture. (1.8 vs 2.0) to get VR and a bit more range. :-)

I think these are all possible and would make a nice DX kit for portraiture.

These lenses are possible. Fuji has the 56 1.2 DX sigma has the 18-35 DX and its not a big crazy leap to think that the 50-105 F2.0 VR is possible. Many would like to keep getting Nikkors instead of buying Sigma or jumping ship to Fuji.

I had a play with the D5500 in the shop. Its nice.. I think it performs better than the D7100 in AF speed. Should be a nice kit for someone who doesn’t need the D7200's extra features.. The D7200 will have the in body AF motor. and the 51 AF points for even faster AF. and probably better Low light AF acquisition.

Re the cost difference ..of the D5300 vs D7200. It indeed makes sense to get the D5300 if you are on a tight budget. I have recommended that exact combination to a friend in the last week.

Currently I'm thinking in a different direction. The only reason I'd look for (another boring) DX body is the fps, but it's no difference big enough with current models. Real speed would come from a CX model like 1 V 3 or 1 V 2 as they go up to 20 fps with AF and 60 fps without, whilst the shutter speed is up to 1/16.000 @-)

I had my DX-phasis and now I'm curious what else Nikon has to offer. Of course, lowlight is not the alley in which I find the 1 series, but fast action and loads of focus points with A TOUCH SCREEN! Sorry for screening, screaming around, but with a fingertip going from left top, to right bottom and in the corners of the frame - as FX fanboy I only can dream of 8-> such rapid change of focuspoint.

Yes, I assumed that since the D300s can be boosted to 8FPS, the D7200 should be able to do that too. If it can, it would make a lot of people happy, if the buffer was deep enough. I think people would look over the not-pro build if it had everything else.

have you seen image comparaison on image ressource between D7100 and D5500 ?
    http://www.imaging-resource.com/IMCOMP/COMPS01.HTM
You will notice that there is a loss of détails in red color (per haps a problem ) but the IQ of D5500 is very impressive : the noise level is very low, far away from D7100.
this sensor in D7200 and I am happy with that.

I think it's a pretty safe bet that if it's going to be called a D7200 than it's really going to just be a maturation of the 7000/7100 line. Nikon's naming scheme is often questionable and unreliable but they've not really made drastic changes when releasing a camera body and naming it so closely to the predecessors. (3000/3100/3200/3330, 5000/5200, etc).

If may get a little beefier of a body, sounds like it will actually have a semi-decent 2-3 second buffer in full RAW and will probably add a few other nice additions (wi-fi, tilt screen, etc). That's what we're going to get folks, not a D300 replacement with this body. Don't get your hopes up if that's what you want to see.

I for one find the D7100 (of which I own) simply the best bang for the buck in all camera bodies. For $1K or less, you get more from that camera per $$ that just about anything else out there sans a grey market D610 and even that body has some compromises. My only beef with D7100 is the poor buffer, but if they can release a body that shoots faster, goes longer, and has any IQ enhancements (better sensor), etc it's a home run in my opinion at a $1100 - $1300 price point.

    My two cents...

I was disappointed there was not several new DX lens at the CES show. There is still lots of time left this year to release a cluster of lens.
Just curious, what type of new DX lenses do people want that isn't already covered by current DX zooms and FX primes? I suppose an updated fast standard zoom is one, but what else?
@BPS - There are several DX lens mentioned here that people would like to see updates too. From my perspective I would like to see these updated:
    -17-55 F2.8
    -12-24 F4
    -16-85 F3.5 - 5.6
    -18-300 F3.5-6.3
    -18-200 F3.5-5.6
    -55-300 F4.5-5.6
I am sure there are more, these were the ones I have used or have friends that use them.

    I agree ..

I think the only one on that list that really needs updating is the 16-85..
I guess 17-55 is old but so is the 24-70 and both those "needs" Vr (not really)
I have the 12-24 .. Its really a very good lense.. Its a shame I am not an ultra-wide shooter..

I thought the 18-300 was an older lens based upon MFG #. My mistake.

I've mentioned it before but it's worth repeating, the Sigma Art 16-35mm 1.8 really solved a lot of these concerns about lens updates and quality. It's a fantasic optic at a fair price with light gatherimg ability at 1.8, DOF flexability similar to a FF camera at 2.8 and is razor sharp. It's all the primes in one zoom package.

There are actually two current 18-300mm VR Nikkors, the AF-S 18-300mm F3.5-5.6G VR and the lighter AF-S 18-300mm F3.5-6.3G VR. Both are current models, and both were released less than four years ago.
If I take a good photo it's not my camera's fault.
