Usually cameras are available within a month of an announcement, particularly with lower end models like the D7xxx series.
I don't think D7xxx series is a "lower end". D5xxx and D3xxx now those ARE the "lower end" models. :-))
Note that I didn't say "entry level'. Lower end simply means just that, lower end, consumer, not targeted at higher end consumers and pros (not to say those types of people don't use them). The comment has nothing to do with the value of the camera.

If I take a good photo it's not my camera's fault.
What's the chance of the D7200 having the Quiet Continuous mode like the D810? That would be a major selling point for me.
My D610 has the quiet continuous mode so the D7200 should have it too. I would be surprised if it didn’t.

If the D7200 ends up being the "Emperor's New Camera" I'll probably stand pat or, perhaps buy a refurb D7100. To cave in and purchase a D750 or D610 seems to me to be falling into exactly the trap the bean counters at Nikon would want. I guess old age has made me too much the cynic, but seeding rumors of a new, better DX body and then directing the DX faithful down the FX path when the rumor fails to pan out seems a bit too convenient.

So you think that Nikon aren't going to produce any more new D7xxx body models as part of a plot to get us to swap to FX? Reads like paranoia to me.

Resistance is futile I've waited as long as I possibly can. and a decent weather shielded magnesium framed FX body for $1499?? Now you just can't beat that. However I'll give Nikon few more weeks I'd just like to see what am I missing on D7200, if it exists at all

D7200, 40mm Micro Nikkor f2.8, Lowepro AW Hatchback 16,
Sorry, didn't mean it to come off that strong. No, not that they're abandoning DX. As I admitted, I am probably too much the cynic. Quite frankly, like the rest of you, I don't have the faintest idea what's happened with the 7200. I do think, however, that as the subtitle of the board notes, "where there's smoke, there's fire." My interpretation of that maxim is, rumors have a source and, as is the case in many organinzations, leaks are often used strategically. And, I'm just the slightest bit miffed. I hope that doesn't sound too paranoid. Maybe just a little.
Is that Nikon's doing here? Whonoz. Time will tell. As to Nuku's course of action, I understand fully that people have to do what they have to do. I really hope it works out. I'm in the fortunate position of not needing to do anything in the near term, so I'll just sit back and watch.
So they're abandoning DX - because what "serious" photographers really want next is bigger, heavier cameras and lenses. Actually no they don't, and some of us are ready to go the other direction - like e-mount mirrorless - if Nikon doesn't want us anymore.
just to remind one of the advantages of current time, besides D750 (and 7D Mk II if you are into action/tele APS) for 1500 you can get low mileage mint D800E now, or even cheaper if you are happy with D800. Those two bodies probably have still a long life of usefulness and competitiveness ahead of them, unlike the 12mp D700
Based off the rumors on the front page, they're basically shoving a D7100 sensor into a D750 with a bigger buffer. Not bad, and if they up the FPS with a battery grip to about 8 FPS, this is pretty much a D300s replacement.
I wonder what took them so long though.
I'm more excited about new lenses than a new DX body.
I really believe there is still a need for a D7200 upgrade path for D7000, D5XXX, and D3XXX owners.
If it has 8FPS with that bigger buffer it's going to draw lots of interest. As far as why it took so long, my hunch they wanted to see what the 7DMKII really did in the field so they could set better specs where the 7D has weaknesses. A replacement to the D300 is "a vapor ware DSLR".
I was disappointed there was not several new DX lens at the CES show. There is still lots of time left this year to release a cluster of lens.

Just curious, what type of new DX lenses do people want that isn't already covered by current DX zooms and FX primes? I suppose an updated fast standard zoom is one, but what else?
1) a 60 mm F1.2 DX would be nice .. 2) a 50-105 F2 DX VR would be cool 3) a 18-40 F2 DX VR would be awesome !

1) if they can't make a 58/1.2, how do you expect to get a 60/1.2? At which costs? Cards on table, how man WILL you pay for (not "I would, if...") 2) get a Sigma 50-150/2.8, sharp like a razor 3 get a Sigma 18-35/1.8 sharp like two razors
You're asking for high level lenses (at even higher costs) with reduced versatility if one wants to go mirrorless or FX in a camera segment which is about to extinguish - or do you see some reason why new hobbyists should bother with mirror or mediocre shallow DoF? Come on, DX-shooters, start the beatings and feel happy . DX was the future when digital photography started.
@funtagraph: You speak like you know something no one else knows - care to share what it is and who your inside source is? If DX has no future why do Nikon persevere with P&S's when everybody has a mobile phone?
As for the 18-35 Sigma, the thing is a POS for low light focusing. An f1.8 that doesn't focus in churches is useless. Are you recommending it from personal experience?

I have some 7100 accessories as grip and extra battery, and lcds protectors, leftovers from my stolen D7100 setup, hope they will fit the 7200 :P
